My puppy was a Shih Tzu, 68 days old and weighed 2.15. I had her 24 days. In those 24 days she went to Banfield 4 times. First time-bought Wellness Pkg. The vet told me that Shih Tzus were one of her least favorite breeds-she had nasal problems, ear infection and got meds. 2nd time, she had cough, got meds. 3rd time, bad skin, continue meds and got flax seed oil. 4th time went in for shots, she was fine but the night before had an episode where she acted "drunk". DVM, Chief of Staff in OKC I240 operated on her nasal passage and spaded her. She was still on meds from the other times. She killed my puppy!
The Medical Records are the property of the Practice, at least in California Law. Copies can be made for a "nominal" charge for Owners. Any time a pet goes under anethisia(as well as Humans) there is a chance the patient will never wake up through no fault of Veterinary Staff.

Banfield is not an EV (emergency vet). It's like you going to a family doctor after slicing an artery... They won't have the tools neccessary to treat some emergencies. They told you the right thing, go to an emergency vet. You can't afford it? Well if it was your child who got hurt would you just wait the weekend because of that? This was not Banfield's fault. It sounds like they did their best to fix your mistake but since you waited to long, your pup (who is a shih-tzu and prone to those problems) suffered and died. Sorry but that is how it sounds. By the way, the Wellness Plan wouldn't cover that anyhow. Sounds like you got a puppy who wasn't bred very well. Maybe that's why you got her? She was inexpensive?
I too will never go back to Banfield! My kitten was very sick, on the verge of death, and they REFUSED to see her because they were "too busy", yes they were overbooked but they are a hospital after all...They told me to take her to the emergency vet! I had a wellness plan at Banfield and they want me to go somewhere else and pay full price which I cannot afford...
Then when I finally took my kitten in after the LONG weekend, the nurse called me and told me how sick my kitten was (duh), how dehydrated she was, and that it was MY fault for not taking her somewhere I couldn't afford! She actually blatantly blamed me for making my cat sick when SHE was the person who turned me away, told me to leave Banfield, on the verge of tears.
My kitten eventually had to be put to sleep because she had FIP, but not after I was forced by them to go to a different, more expensive vet hospital, that cost me several hundred dollars....because they were too inept to figure it out themselves!
I've had both of my dogs at Banfield for 5 years, and have them set up with the Wellness Program. One of my dogs is a "special needs" rescue, who I adopted with a metal plate in his hip and pins in his "elbows". The staff at Banfield has taken such amazing care of my dogs, they know them by name and even recognize which one is coming in. I wouldn't go anywhere else!
Do what everyone else does and just get another one.
You can love and pamper it until the novelty wears off.
Then you can shove it in the back yard and let the neighbours hear it yap all of the time. If it’s lucky, it will escape on the odd occasion and go through people’s bins and make a general nuisance of itself.
Most people can’t look after themselves let alone a pet.
Question...Have you looked at the rates of accidental human death in the last 50 years? I am speaking of those in hospitals, those that happened while a patient was undergoing a procedure, or while under treatment for something. It's quite scary. And you are complaining about a pet you didn't even do your homework on? I am an animal lover and am owned by many pets at the moment. Before I let anyone do anything, I look at the pros and cons, including antibiotics and other seemingly non important items. I then make my choice and know that I will be dealing with whatever consequences may come, within reason. Accidents do happen, but, just like a lot of car wrecks, they could have been prevented. When was the last time you second guessed your own doctor and researched a prescription before putting those chemicals into your body? Same thing goes with the food we eat. Sure, I amd not a vegetarian or a health freak, but I am conscious of what I put into my bosy and know any consequences that may occur. Think about that the next time you take a pet ANYWHERE, and before you put that potato chip in your mouth.
Sometimes, you need to do your research before purchasing a breed that is predisposed to to certain illnesses.
Also, forgive me if I am wrong, but you have to sign to EVERYTHING they want to do. You agreed (most likely without reading first) that there is a risk of injury and/or death while under anesthetics.
I am sorry for your loss, however, a little research and some common sense may have prevented your pet's death.
sorry about your pup. i too am not a satisfied customer. i had a cockapoo and every time i took her in they would perform services i did not request. they ended up having to eat a lot of the cost even though i was on the pet plan.
I am sorry to hear about your puppy. I actually have taken my maltese to banfield for over 3 months now and have not had any bad experiences. My puppy is very healthy, and i make sure by always getting 2nd opinons and checkups. it ensures that i dont have to worry about losing my puppy either. i would rather spend extra money in that than to lose my baby. They are very professional and loving to all pets that they see so maybe its the banfields you see in your area.
