Banfield Pet Hospital complaint
Four times i contacted Banfield in reference to transferring my pets wellness plan. I was moving from Florida to NC and had misplaced my paperwork. So i did what anyone else would do and i called them to get the details. Their words exactly"Just go to the new petsmart give them your pets name and they will transfer everything with no problem. Never once did the local store or the corportate office tell me that i would sign a new plan or that i would lose my unused Spay/Neuter from the plan i have been paying for. For those of you who say " Read the contract" let me remind you that during my packing it was misplaced and being as that my plan had been in affect for so long i couldn't remember the plan in it's entirety. What i do remember is that i signed up for a puppy plan that included having my dog spayed. When you sign a puppy plan it's for a year. Why after six months is your puppy considered an adult? Why not have a six month wellness plan? So let's to through this again, you sign your puppy up for 12 months of coverage, you can only used the puppy portion for 6 months and anything after that is converted to an adult plan. You tell me where they disclose that information in the contract. They don't and they are dishonest and deceiving. I will never go back nor will i ever refer anyone to PetsMart for anything.

I am a pet nurse and a receptionist at Banfield. I always try my best to go over wellness plans with people as much as i can in order to minimize confusion. However, you are responsible for what you put your signature on!!! Services on your wellness plan are not lost or anything like that. Basically in order to sign up on puppy plan, the puppy must be UNDER 6 months old. It is suggested to get you pet spayed/neutered at or just under six months which is around the time of mature development (also considered adult). If the puppy is too young, you risk all kinds of problems by putting them under anesthesia. However, around the time of maturity (adult), just like teenagers, pets go into heat. This can be a big problem when you go to spay them. Because the tissue may not heal correctly and if they're in heat, the surgery is EXTREMELY bloody!!! You don't want your pet do die from blood loss, do you? When transferring a puppy plan, DO IT WHEN PET IS UNDER SIX MONTHS OLD!!! The plan just starts over for the year. If you wait until they are six months or over, YEAH you do lose the spay/neuter because the are now considered ADULTS. And Banfield has wellness plan just for ADULTS. Bottom line... It's your responsiblity for what you but your autograph on!!! By siging the agreement you are saying you understand and abide by ALL guidelines of the wellness plan.

First off your services aren't cancelled or lost, your wp basical re-starts again for another year from the date of transfer, all spays/neuters should be done before 6 months or there are additional charges that can be inccurred 1) over 6 month fee and 2) over 50# fee (obviously doesn't apply to all breeds), these are stated. Reason being it becomes a riskier surgery the longer owners wait, the heavier they are the more risks as well. OWP are preventitive care not health insurances. As far as changing birthdates if you work for them, you will know that isn't allowed and is rather unfair to those who do use the services appropriately. Its employees like yourself who change the rules and make it hard for the ones who follow them when a transfer client comes in. Also please note that although most Banfields are located next to or in a Petsmart they are not affilliated, they are two seperate corporations. You apparently dealt with some uneducated employees.

I just singed my male terrier on a puppy plan. It states on the first page of items included in the plan that the neuter must be done up to 6 months of age. So I don't get your problem? Oh wait, you want to blame them for your lack of responsibility. Did I get it right? Why the buy something you don't bother to understand? It's like expecting your stove to just cook for you because you assume it's going to.

the new office should have changed the age of your puppy to alllow for the spay or neuter and then changed it back after the plan was ordered- thats what we do-- I am sorry that your plan was not transfered correctly- please call the main office
