Banfield Pet Hospital in Dallas, Texas - Banfield sold me 1/2 box expired meds at full price

My vet called in a prescription for FortiFlora at Banfield Pet Hospital (Coit/Cambell, Dallas) since it was closer to me. They sold me an opened box with only 15 out of 30 packets which had expired 4 months earlier for full price. I went back and was told they had no more, then they found another partial box. A full box of 30 cost $45; I bought 10, so thought $15 would be fair. However, they charged a "per unit" price of $2.20/packet, notwithstanding the fact that they didn't have a full box to begin with. The product packaging also states "Not intended for individual resale." They told me I could come back and talk to their office manager the next day. I opted for the power of the Internet. My veterinarian told me when I called later that they sell only full boxes, since this medication is intended to be used for a month, and charge only $29. Moral of the story: Banfield is dishonest, deceptive, overcharges for its products and services, and expresses no moral qualms about its practices.

A follow up to my original posting. The vet tech who processed the paperword for the original purchase of expired Fortiflora did not actually credit the transaction to my credit card and the $45 charge remained on my statement. I had to enlist the help of the credit card company to dispute the charge.

On a positive note, when I talked to Banfield's office manager, she was extremely friendly and accommodating. She researched the situation, consulted with the Seattle office and got back to me within two hours to say that she had credited back to my account the $45 that had been charged.

My view of Banfield also went up when I saw that the office manager and a vet tech were conversing in sign language, showing that Banfield is giving work to Americans with disabilities.

They should NOT be selling expired meds. If this was an error they mosy certainly should take it back and get you non expired meds. This is disturbing to say the least...

I posted a complaint on this site in April--I can't find it now. What happened was, I took a guinea pig in with an anal prolapse. The doctor prescribed a treatment and sent us home. Before I had a chance to use any of the meds, he died. I called to ask if the meds...

To Jeff:

Thank you for your response. Actually, I am not in as much pain as someone whose animal was negligently killed by Banfield, but I am in pain.

I have dealt with this Banfield facility for about two years, and they have been fairly nice to deal with, up until my recent guinea-pig debacle.

They apologized and gave me my money back in April. I was impressed with this, and so I decided I would like to keep doing business with them. Whenever I called, however, I got excuses about the meds I needed being "back-ordered."

This went on for about one month. Then, without warning, I received a fat envelope by Certified Mail, with no return address or indication as to who the sender was.

Since I have been hassled and threatened for the past ten years by one individual, my first thought was that it was some kind of legal problem, and I was frightened.

When I opened the envelope and saw that it was from Banfield, I was floored.

They could have told me right up front that they wanted to give me my records back. They didn't have to play elementary-school games with me.

I'm an older, disabled woman--what do they think I'm going to do??

Perhaps you are confusing cruelty with being witty.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Dallas, Texas - Rip Off after 9 years of being a customer

after being a paying customer for 9 years, the credit card that I had my monthly payments debited from was payed off and closed. I hadnt realized that this was where the monthly payments were debited until 4 months later, when I received a notice from a collection agency for nearly 300.00. I called Banfield to settle up the 4 month 20.00 payments and they informed me that " this is not a Pet Insurance Policy, but a financed pet health discount plan and I would have to pay the 300.00 plus get back on the plan" Bull ***! ! they totaly advertise this as pet insurance. Not only will I not pay it, I will .lfind a real vet for my dog, and they can stick it!

It is NOT advertised as an insurance policy, in fact, if you look at the back of the brochures it states in large bold print that it is not an insurance policy. I guess people just hear what they want to hear. And that will totally mess up your credit if you don't pay it off, so you are hurting yourself more than anyone else.

your fault for not knowing that the monthly fee was on that card - guess you don't read all the charges on your bill and if that is the case you are the one at fault here.

sorry you are so pissed... :cry

NO!! Don't ignore them!

Banfield Pet Hospital in Houston, Texas - Tried to sell me expensive tests, but didn't help dog much.

I brought in a elderly dog who was having difficulty standing, walking and breathing. The Banfield vet spend most of the time trying to sell me numerous and expensive tests. I paid $263 for an exam, blood work and meds, and took my dog home. The dog began crying in pain early the next morning She could not get up on her feet. I took her to my regular vet who said any treatment may or may not work, and that my dog was very sick. After an exam, a courteous and forthright discussion about what type of life she might have left, I had my dog euthanized to put her out of her agony.

I am truly sorry you lost your pet, but I don't know of a single vet that will euthanize a pet they have just seen for the first time without trying to determine what is wrong first. Do they not deserve at least that much? It could be a simple fix for all you know.

Maybe they needed the expensive tests to try to find out what was wrong with your dog. It's not like they have a crystal ball or something.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Washington, District Of Columbia - My boy Sammy will never go to banfield again

I have been taking my dog Sammy to banfield since Oct. 2009. On May 24 I took him in for a teeth cleaning and when I went to pick him up his paws were shaved in two places. They said they couldn't get the I.V. in on the one pool. They had a colar on him that was chocking him and dog tags on him that weren't his. The next few days he was winding when I put on his collar so I took a look underneath his head and he was shaved on his neck and it was all red and swollen. I called and question banfield about this and asked them why wouldn't they tell me that they had to get the blood sample thru his jugular vein. The doctor then told me the person that worked on Sammy it was her first week there. He then told me Sammy had the wrong collar and leash and tags on him, because he had an accident in his cage. Why didn't they tell me all this when I picked him up. I think they are trying to cover up something that when wrong with Sammy while getting his teeth cleaned. Maybe to much anesthetic. I will never take Sammy back there for any reason. I hope all other pet lovers do the same. Mary

So sorry to hear about poor Chico. My baby Yorkie, Licorice, went to Banfield Pet Hospital in for a simple blood test and never left.

My husband and I sat in the lobby waiting unaware that numerous venipuncture attempts to draw blood from her little neck were unsuccessful and our baby was becoming increasingly terrorized. The Vet Tech "vigorously restrained" our baby tighter and and a blood sample was finally taken" by means of puncturing her carotid artery. Our little girl bleed to death; chocking on her blood. The Vet Tech should have asked for help from the Vet.

The best choice would have been to forgo the test completely but apparently that was contrary to his financial incentive, Banfield's profit margin comes before the well being of our pets.

The worst part was the blood test was completely unnecessary. Lone Tree Banfield Pet Hospital, Colorado.

Thank you and yes it is true, we are competely under paid. But I stay for the PETS.

I am there for them and nothing us. And of course they're bad reviews on yelp. People only go on yelp to complain as well as here Melissa Holden. Yes, I know who you are because there are only a few of our clients that don't like us.

We have around 1,000 pets on Plans at San Carlos and there are about 20 clients that don't like us and you are one of them.

Not everyone is going to like us, we can't make everyone happy but hey if you don't I'm sorry and maybe you can find a veterinary clinic you like in the future. I wish you the best of luck.

Banfield Pet Hospital in San Diego, California - Lied about what they would do careing for my dog

Patch,a Poodle, male, 4yr,8months, weights 23.2 lbs. He was purchased from the County of San Diego Animal Shelter, at Bonita. When he was purchased he had only one eye and the other eye was damaged. He was taken to Pet Smart on Fletcher in El Cajon. Because his eye was bothering him so much they were to remove everything in his eye socket, they told us they did, but did not. We took Patch to Aaron Rhoade, DVM, who told us that he would remove the eye May 9,2011. He wrote a detail paper on his findings.
