I thought Banfield Pet would be a good place to take my dogs. The I figure out the scam. They have you sign up with the wellness plan and every visit they will push selling you something you can get cheaper. I took my dog in for a x ray on her leg.I signed the paper...

@Banfield advocate You wrote:

"All nurses are required to complete about 80 lessons online, as well as be highly qualified just to be hired (most have either vet-tech training or college degrees). What other veterinarian clinic places such an emphasis on education?"

Are you kidding me? I want every person who works on my dog to have vet-tech traing and not some *** on-line training either. There is a reason to be a Vet-tech requires you to get a two year degree. I have my B.S. in Criminology I wonder if I should get a job a Banfields.

Oh and quick answer to your question ALL OF THEM except Banfield and they take it seriously... And have real Vet-techs....

The wellness plan seemed great at the beginning until you go in to use it and they will find something to sell you medicine, flea medicine for indoor dogs and do tests that you don't need. I finally caught on and said I dont need a heartworm test for the limping in her...

I signed up for the wellness plan also, for my 2 dogs, and everything was good until the day I needed something more complex than just vaccines... My dog had a torn ligament on his knee, he needed x-rays with sedation and a surgery to repair the ligament...

First I got the x-rays at Banfield, they charged me 500 bucks...

after that, the doctor wanted to charge me 2500 for a surgery (tightrope) that I paid 1100 at another vet (that confessed me that he had to fix 2 of these kind of surgeries from Banfield!).

Banfield is ok if your dog is not sick or just need current vaccines, other than that, they just gonna try to rip you off!

I had signed up as a new pet owner for the wellness program and started feeling like I was going to a used car dealership. I noticed every visit they would sell me things when my guard was down concerned for my pets. I was sold flea medicine for indoor dogs and they...

Banfield Pet Hospital in Palmyra, Pennsylvania - Big Business Veterinary Hospital Complaints

Really tired of the complaints against veterinary conglomerates such as VCA and Banfield. People continue to complain about their service and their cost. What do you expect? Why don't you try your local veterinarian. Maybe you'll get the care and understanding that you want. Find a doctor that you would go to if you were sick, Not one in the clipper ads. I don't feel sorry for the people that complain, I only feel sorry for their pets. If you want tender loving care, go to the privately owned vet hospital with best word of mouth review.

For the record, we do not work for commission at Banfield. We have set salaries as of 2011 and running diagnostics and prescribing medication does not increase our pay or decrease our pay whether you decide to follow our recommendations or not. Pets don't get to pick their owner, so the least we can do as pet owners is treat and take care of them the way we would want someone to do for us. If you can't afford taking care of a living mammal, there are plenty of rescues that will find an owner who will.

In specific relation to ear infections, we do cytology as mentioned here earlier, to determine exactly what is in your dog's ears. We could throw you medication but if it's for rod bacteria (which is resistant to most typical ear antibiotics and needs to be cultured to find out what specific antibiotic may need to be used), guess what: you're back at our clinic complaining we didn't treat your pet, and we don't know what we're doing. Meanwhile, your pet is going through horrible pain and scratching it's ear so bad it pops blood vessels in the eyes, pops it's ear drums and now you have a situation that is going to take more money to treat.

We chose this career because we care about animals. Trust me, my hundreds of thousands of loans I pay back trump what my income is and only someone who really cares would take that risk. Please learn to respect our profession.

I rarely write a bad review but sometimes a situation warrants me to warn people about potential problems. I have been to this location twice now, the 1st time was Oct of 2009, my dogs had some intestinal parasites. They prescribed me 69 mg size baytril. I always look...

Banfield Pet Hospital in Clinton, Maryland - Banfield

I work for Banfield the pet hosp. of south alexandria and i must say myself we are a good hospital... we may have our own internal problems but as far as our clients we do wat we have to take care of all of our clients.. they come first to us and maybe you all should visit our hospital before making overall comments pls... we all cry when something doesnt go right with a patient and go out of our way to show how much we care.. i honestly cant speak for other hospitals but i think we do what we have to do to and i would appreciate you all giving us a try before just making overall opinions on every1 based on anger from other hospitals

George Alcantar at Banfield pet hospital in Sacramento

I have had to come to the same Banfield 5 times for the same reason. I seems like everytime I bring my cat back the staff is even more rude and lazy. When you come to the front desk there is ofter 5 staff members ignoring you for a good 5 min. Only after you pull them out of there non-work related conversation can you get checked in, look forward to waiting another 20 min to be taken to another waiting room. Then the uneducated rude asst. George Alcantar will come in take the weight and temp and try to upsell you on several things you say you don't want and don't need. By then he is irritated they didn't upsell you thell walk out, slam the door an make you wait for another 30 min just to see the vet. The doctors are great when you finally see them....that's the only reason I keep coming back.

WHEN YOU SIGN THE WELLNESS PLAN AGREEMENT, YOU SIGN THAT YOU UNDERSTAND IT IS NOT INSURANCE AND DOES NOT COVER MEDICATIONS OR TREATMENTS NOT IN THE PREVENTATIVE CARE BUNDLE. NEXT TIME YOU GO TO WALGREENS TO PICK UP YOUR MEDICATION, LOOK AT THE PRICE BEFORE THE CO-PAY.

MEDICINE IS ***EXPENSIVE*** and $25/mo = $300/yr which is the cost of a spay alone at a high-end clinic. So practically you can consider all the vaccines and deworming and fecal exams and physical exams and fiv test to be free. Plus you can finance it out for 12 mo? If you don't want to go to a modern full service clinic, don't.

But you are getting an amazing deal for the quality of service provided.

And unlimited office visits? That is priceless.
