Bought a rat from Petsmart. Thought their policy was that if it got sick within 2 weeks, they would take care of it. thinking that since Banfield was in their store, they would be the ones to handle it. Of course, upon bringing the animal in, the staff did not say...

Banfield is in no way the same business as PetSmart. They only rent space from them, so PetSmart is not Banfield's store.

It is no different then taking your pet to a vet down the street.

Of course they're not going to give you free services due to their proximity to PetSmart and to say the medications should be $10 is rediculous. Welcome to the year 2014.

Banfield Pet Hospital

I recently set up an appointment at Banfield in ATL for a 5pm appt for what appeared to be an ear infection for my 8 yr old chihuhua. After sitting in the waiting area until 6:30 (closing time 7), our regular vet was closed and this was our first visit. After taking him into the back the Vet came in and said there was not only an infection but also a tumor in his ear. He said his ear canal was closed and showed me the tumor on a diagram while quoting the price of surgery and selling the wellness plan for discount on the procedure. In my pet's best interest I set up an appt for the suregery after they had to restart the computers because the workers had closed for the day. All the while I hadn't seen my dog since we were brought in until after I paid. Along with the fact that my dog had a wellness exam with his regular vet of 6yrs a month prior I brought him there 2 days later for a 2nd opinion. Needless to say they brought in a video scope and went into the canal and said there was no tumor just build and inflamation from the infection, they showed me as oppossed to telling me with now idea where my dog is. The $50 follow up saved me from the $1500 quote for the surgery initially suggested. A week later his fine and well, if you are like me and our pet is part of your family, be cautious and seek a second opinion. I've been to Banfield one time and that was the last.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Washington, District Of Columbia - HORRIBLE customer service!

Every time I take my two dogs to the Banfield, we have horrible customer service. The "pet nurses" are rude beyond belief, no one ever calls to let me know when they are ready, and even when I call and am told what time they will be done, it takes at least an hour of me waiting in the store for them to come out. We have both dogs on their Wellness plans, which apparetnly is a contract that were not informed about, so we are stuck paying for that load of *** for 4 months on 1 dog and 7 months on the other. What a waste. I'd rather pay 400% the money and go to a REAL vet than to take my dogs to Banfield again. THey always try to convince you that things are wrong with your dogs that aren't, and always try to sell you redicutous medications for non-existant problems. HATE THEM!

We have been with Bandfield for three years, and they try to tale you for every penny you have. Our Dog had passed, and we didn't even use the plan that year, They still charged us.

Our other dog has an ear infection, and the Doctor said we needed, a laundry list of medications. Come ON! 400Plus dollars of things they wanted to do, and perscriptions tolaling 150.00. They are such a scam.

I believe they will over med any dog for profit. I asked for a perscription I could get at Walmart, and they looked at me like I had a third eye.

Please do research before using them. They will take you for every penny you have.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Bellevue, Washington - Butchered my Boxer charlotte nc

4 weeks ago took my 11 mounth old boxer to have her spayed. The incision looked like I took my kitchen scissors to her. Not only was the incision long and jagged, but the stitches looked like whoever sewed them up had done a bothched job. Looked Awful and was bleeding and got an infection being that they did not tell me that she needed antibiotics. only gave her pain medications for 2 days. Mind you from the beginning all Banfield seems to do is add fees to your bill. The receptionist are horrible!!! Went back two wee later and found out that she had an infection. The staff were horrified at the infection and I was LIvid!! I knew something was wrong. When the Vet that performed the surgery finally came in I let her have it. Still wanted to charge me over $170 to have her lanced to let the infection out. Can you believe they had the balls to want me to pay for their screw up!! So she only charged me for the meds and gave me a discount. Needless to say I will be going back to my old vet. Not at all happy with Banfield. They only want to sell extra items for you to pay.

Banfield Pet Hospital

Bitsy's Right to Quality of Life I am writing this letter in response to the treatment I received from Banfield Pet Hospital at: 120 31st Avenue SE, Puyallup, WA 98374. Long story short, I have been a client with them since 2002 for my two miniature schnauzers. First I had to put my one schnauzer (Kibbles) to sleep because of Renal Kidney Failure. This was on February 2, 2010. I took Bitsy in on August 17th, 2010 because of urinary issues. I dropped her off at 8am for a urinalysis and blood work. I came back to check on her about 10 am. I was told that Dr. Foster was in surgery and would be done with surgery around 1pm and then would go to lunch. So, I came back at 2:15. I was then told that she had to go back into surgery. Funny thing is that I kept seeing her check on other clients and then kept disappearing. Still, I was given no word on the results. I kept waiting patiently. I believe Dr. Foster was putting me off until a group of supervisors showed up so that they could deny my request and could try and get more money out of me. Then, after the group of supervisors showed up, I was finally called back into the examining room so Dr. Foster could speak with me about the results. After she told me that she wouldn't put Bitsy to sleep because she wanted to try "something else" I became angry with her and told her that she did not have the right to tell ME I couldn't put my dog to rest because she wasn't getting quality of life anymore. She then went to get the Medical Director, Dr.Schilines to come in and talk with me. First they tried to deny my wishes stating that in their policy they were a no kill facility and if they felt that they could help the animal they would not put the animal to sleep. They haven't been able to help Bitsy for years. They just prolonged her agony. They could not produce me a copy of this policy. The website it does not offer that information either. They did the urinalysis and blood work. They said there was nothing wrong, but yet they wanted to prescribe MORE medicine. They have been filling her with medicine for years and nothing has worked. It's always "Let's try this". Bitsy has been on the plan since 2005. In 2007 she was hit with pancreatitis and with two days of IV and a lot of money after, she started feeling better. She has had severe allergic reactions to shots, so I had them put in Bitsy's file not to give her more than one shot at a time. In 2009, she went in for her annual comp exam; Dr. Singh gave her four shots all at once. Evidently, he didn't refer to her records. That would be considered Malpractice in my eyes. By the time I got her home, (I live 3 minutes away) she had hives everywhere, stared vomiting profusely, couldn't drink water, or eat. I lost two days of work because I had to stay home and doctor her myself with Benadryl and keep cleaning up messes. She didn't eat until five days after that. I then had Banfield counter girls put in the files that I did not want Dr. Singh to touch any of my dogs. He was forbidden!! I did not pursue it at the time because of Bitsy's health issues, I needed the plan and a vet, I thought. Bitsy also has had other issues, which the doctors at Banfield haven't been able to address. I have spent over $5000 out of pocket, plus years of the monthly payments to their medical plans. Bitsy was twelve years old at the time I had to make the decision to put her to sleep, it ended up to be quite traumatic because of the way they treated me. Bitsy has had health issues for years. She did not have quality of life. She was always itching and chewing on herself, always wearing a cone, always on meds, and having cysts growing everywhere on her body making her itch even more. With her history, Dr. Foster and her supervisor (Medical Director, Dr. Schilines) should have not refused my wishes and added to my distress of even having making this decision to put her to sleep because of their incompetence. Both these doctors kept telling me that Bitsy wasn't suffering. They didn't live with Bitsy for 12 years watching her itch moan and groan, not walking well because of arthritis losing her quality of life and once almost dying by the hands of one of their doctor's incompetence. Then they finally agreed to my decision, and when Dr. Foster put in the medication to put her to sleep, she jammed the medication in way to fast. Bitsy started howling, shaking, and then went into a small seizure. It traumatized me. I haven't been able to sleep because every time I close my eyes, I see Bitsy going out like that. I asked Dr. Foster why Bitsy did that she said that. She said that all animals react differently. I believe she did that on purpose because of being talked to by her supervisor and it was retaliation. When Dr. Pieracci put Kibbles to sleep, she put in the medication in slowly, and Kibbles just went to sleep. NO TRAUMA to me or my Kibbles. I have talked to several other pet owners that have had to put their pets to sleep and they have not had to experience that. What they did to me was unnecessary. I would like to see that Dr. Singh, Dr. Foster be investigated as for them to be able to practice. Dr. Schlines should not come in and refuse a clients decision without reading the files and understanding the history of the animal. No compassion. Again, it is all about the money! They want you to pay for all these tests, but when the tests come back they are never conclusive. They just tell you that it could be this, or it could be that. We will try this and see if it works. Again, guessing! Furthermore; the practices of their medical plan, should be reviewed. With all the issues I've had, I refuse to take my remaining dog to Banfield. I'm very dissatisfied and traumatized. I SHOULD be able to cancel the membership because of not trusting the doctors to know what they're doing. Membership services says that I can't cancel and want me to finish paying for Bitsy and Buddy until their plan ends for the year, which is three more months for Bitsy and Buddy until March. I don't trust these doctors. They are always guessing, trying this and that. They can't seem to come up with the correct diagnosis. It's strange though. After Kibbles passed, I didn't have to pay the remainder. I called to find out why, and they said that I was too upset to listen, so they got approval from a supervisor, to cancel the remainder. That is not true. I just did not understand their scam. And when I asked to talk to a supervisor, they said that no supervisor was available. How conveinent. I have also been reading on line about all the complaints towards Banfield Pet Hospital. I'm having a hard time understanding whey they haven't been investigated. So, I will be sending this to the Veterinary Board of Governors, The Attorney General in Washington State, The attorney General in Oregon State, and The Better Business Bureau. I'm also checking on acquiring a lawyer. I want people to know how this Corporate Business treats people and their beloved animals. It's all about the money for this business. They get you while you're in crisis, and they don't explain in detail about the plan while they're selling it to you. Especially the part that if your pet passes, you still have to pay the monthly until the end of the annual plan. This plan is a scam and unethical. They don't care about the Quality of Life for the animal or the rights of the owner's decision. Bitsy was put to rest on August 17th at 3:43 pm. It's taken me this long to get my composure and mind right to get this letter done. This has been very difficult. It's hard to type when you can't see because your eyes are so swollen from crying you can't see. They should change their slogan or mission statement to: "Show me the money, and then we will try to help your animal." Denise E. Jundt

Banfield Pet Hospital in Miami, Florida - Beware of Banfield, Royal Palm Beach, FL

My dog was not diagnosed after "so-called" vet performed a bogus test. After $200 in charges, and prescribing three different medications, still no diagnosis. Our long-time vet did valid test and confirmed diagnosis in one simple visit. I hope all Petsmart customers contact Petsmart CEO and demand that Banfield NOT be co-mingled with their stores. It is so deceptive that they share space and appear to be related companies, when in fact they are not! I wish I had read this web page with the thousands of complaints BEFORE I took my dog to Banfield. Hopefully, this message will get out before other pets and their families suffer as mine did. Stay away from Banfield, esp. Royal Palm Beach, Florida!

I have always had good experience and report with Banfield. Been going there for over a decade with 4 of my dogs.

I think you may be one of the few that had bad experience with them. Sorry you did.

Banfield pet hospital, everett, WA

Been with Banfield for the past 4 years. Had a wonderful vet. Just found out they fired her. She has been the best vet we've ever had. I am so sad about this. We are friends on Facebook, she is such a classy lady and isn't spreading the word around. I've stopped the wellness plans for our 3 dogs & will go where she is once she finds work. There are other reasons, basically the same as listed here ! Every person has their own reasons for disliking them but this is the icing on the cake for us. I'm locking in another year for one dog unless I pay $400 to get out of my contract that just renewed.. grrrr.. wish I'd remember this. Had the plan with Dixie for 6 years now.. oh well, live and learn

Ok, but I am now ok. My dog now has clean sparkling teeth.

I AM still staying with Banfield because the vet is truly nice, and all of the techs are nice.

The only thing is that when my dog is due for her next visit, I will ask if the vet can either give me some or fulfill a prescription for either Program Flavor Tabs (flea control, keep her on Banfield's Worm Shield) or Sentinel Flavor Tabs (total parasite control, I'm not getting my hopes up for this one, though). I now am feeling better for Banfield, but I still dislike First Shield and now, Comfortis.
