I took my dog to Banfield for a few shots, arrived on time for my appointment and they stick me in a room with my 3 yr old active son. Twenty minutes later a nurse comes in and takes his vitals and says the doctor will be in shortly. If you have ever been put in one...

Banfield Pet Hospital in Washington, District Of Columbia - Banfield, Laurel, MD

A while ago I took my cat to Banfield (Laurel, MD) for shots; it was OK and not too expensive so when she got an ear problem I went back. They said she had a fungical and bacterial ear infection and gave me meds for her with a bill total of $300. My cat had an allergic reaction to the antibiotic medicine and so they told me to bring her in. I told them I wanted to change the antibiotic to Clavamox which she tolerates well. They said they only had the pills and would have to crush the pills and put them in a solution. I said fine, because I did not want to go too long without medicating her. They left the room and came back and said they wouldn't do that and gave me a prescription and said I could have it filled at any pharmacy. I tried several pharmacies who told me that they didn't even have Clavamox in their database. I ended up going to another Banfield which had some in stock and I was able to obtain it. The total bill is now at $400. When I complained about the cost of the 1st visit and the $50 med which my cat was allergic to, they were very cold, and said they could not do anything about it. I couldn't believe that they would charge me for a second visit and refuse to provide me with the alternative medication or at least try to locate some. I had to go on a wild goose chase to get it. I have had 10 different pets in my life, and numerous ear infections. I have never had such an expensive one and have never had such appallingly indifferent treatment. And they still expected me to come back in 2 weeks for a followup? Are you kidding? I will take my cat back to Virginia to her old vet who is 3 hours away before I return to Banfield.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Martinez, California - Banfield in Campbell, Ca ***

I had a terrible experience from start to finish. Front desk staff was not knowledgable. They couldn't answer any of my questions. Instead, they sounded like they had memorized standard answers which don't directl address the issues. They have a monthly wellness plan that they pitch very hard. It seemeed like their focus was on sales rather than providing pet care. Care for my pet was minimal and inadequate. The conclusion of my visit was they made no recommendation other than I get the dog groomed at PetSmart's pet grooming place. Banfield told me my pet was "fine." My dog had an infection and was infested with fleas.

receptions know nothing of pet treatment!!!

they are there for sales and to make sure that you have a good experience while being there... the wellness plans are very nice, i have one and i am sure it is probably one of their biggest selling points.

The Banfield I go to has a very caring staff and they treat every pet with the best care!

Even the mean pets...

maybe grooming was an issue for your dog and maybe he needs flea meds...

Banfield has Wellness Plan that are pre-paid preventive care services. It is not insurance! You can't just cancel it at any time when you decide to go to Progressive or Geico for your pets actual insurance. You are signing a contract for a year at a time for healthy pet services and office visits. It is not for emergencies and does not cover medicines or extra fees... it is exactly what it sounds like: preventive care! Whatever Banfield employee that was discussing the wellness plan with you should have made it clear that even if something happens to your pet you still have to pay for those services because you signed a contract!!! Pay closer attention when you decided to autograph a piece of paper with a lot of small words... that is what I did. I asked every question that came into my head and then some before signing that paper... they really are helpful wellness plans for healthy check-ups for your pet. Also, having a pet is like having a child... you have to have the funds there to be able to take care of the random things that pop up or the possible emergencies that take place!

It is very sad that your pet passed away! I am not judging anyone's stupidity but just think about things in the long run... it happens to us as people too when we get sick and pass away! You still have to pay hospital bills and funeral costs... Even though for myself, I love my two dogs and my one cat and if they died, then the last thing on my mind would be money. I would say the same thing for my family or if I had children.

Again, I am sorry for the unfortunate loss of your pet. That is a difficult thing for anyone to bear.

We're sorry to hear that your Pet had an adverse reaction to the product. Banfield chose to recommend the FirstShieldâ„¢ line of products as our preferred preventive because of qualities such as a faster ability to kill fleas without needing them to *** the Pet.

It also protects against a broader spectrum of parasites. There are several different types of flea preventives available on the market, and each one works in a slightly different manner. We feel that the decision on which flea or tick prevention is used should be a collaboration between you and your veterinarian, in order to help select the most appropriate product. As with many products applied to a Pet’s skin, there is the potential for your dog to experience irritation during or after the application, although this and other reactions are not very common.

If you feel that your Pet is experiencing irritation or a reaction to the product, you should contact your doctor as soon as possible. Please gives us a call if you have any questions or if we can help.

Banfield has a mark up scam. They use bait and switch to get you in the door. My son took our dog for basic shots and heart worm tests. They pushed their plan . He said it sounded good. He told me about it and I said no . When I picked up our dog the bill was $ 400 +. Our dog was held hostage unless I paid I didnt get our pet.

I have filed a complaint with their corperate offices. BBB and now here.

Please do not bring your pet to Banfield

BEWARE of Banfield Pet Hospital

Hands don't the worst thing you could ever do to your pet or your pocket. My Girl Friend and I had our can on a wellness plan for the past five months. The only time that she was seen, was the day we signed up. The can was recently eaten by a coyote so there is no need for the service, but they want us to either pay their inflated prices (which are (10 time what any other place charges) or pay for the next five months for an animal that does not exist. Our dog is also on the plan and every time we go in, it is like having a group of gypsies trying to swindle you. For example, they told me the only way to get a true urine sample was to stick a needle into my puppies bladder. That service was going to cost over $100.00. I also had to pick up some medicine for my dog. One Banfield told me I would need 50ml of ivermectin witch would be about $45.00, and that would last 2 weeks. Another Banfield tried to sell it to me for $160.00 and said my dog would need 60ml. I found the right drug online for $30.00 and it has lasted a whole month. Every time it is a new sales cycle for them. They will tell you your dog will die without this. Lies Lies Lies Lies Lies.

"...they told me the only way to get a true urine sample was to stick a needle into my puppies bladder."

That was the vet's decision, and the nice thing about banfield is it's network of vets...if you didn't like that decision, you can easily go to another banfield hospital and asked for an exam, especially seeing as how it would be free for you because you were on their plan. Also, that service is a urinalysis, which a lot more complicated than just getting the urine sample. The 100 cost includes the testing procedure.

"I also had to pick up some medicine for my dog. One Banfield told me I would need 50ml of ivermectin witch would be about $45.00, and that would last 2 weeks. Another Banfield tried to sell it to me for $160.00 and said my dog would need 60ml."

Ivermectin is a dewormer, and it the price and dose is calculated according to the veterinary observations made about your pet. It is far safer to get a proper, measured dose at Banfield than to buy online and rely on your personal expertise. The extra cost for Banfield addresses the expertise given in the proper dosing. In addition, if you were on the plan as you had said, the ivermectin should have been free of charge. Dewormers are included in your plan. If you are not on the plan, by all means, go and buy online of you want, but remember that the dosing in that case is by yourself...

"Every time it is a new sales cycle for them. They will tell you your dog will die without this."

Not that I've seen. Corporate will come down hard on any employee that tells you your dog will die without ivermectin. However, we will tell you that certain preventive care measures, such as dewormer, is crucial to protect your dog from parasites. This is because of the experience the practice as a whole has. Yes, your pet CAN die from parasites, but the main point is these parasites are exceedingly common in the pets we deal with, and part of the practice's global effort is in decreasing the prevalence of diseases caused by these parasites. They work with CDC (Center for Disease Control) and other government agencies to control the spread of parasitic disease because of the large database of information they have is useful to the people as a whole.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Summerfield, Florida - Prescribed First Shield Trio...bad product!!!

I am a customer of Banfield. They prescribed First Shield Trio (flea, tick, mosquitoes). My poor little dog is suffering. I have had dogs for many, many years, taken good care of them, and ALWAYS took them for their shots and exams, teeth cleaning and in general, all their health needs were up to day, so I DO know something. I don't want to be "questioned" on how to apply a flea and tick medicine!! This product is the worst I have ever seen! My pup has more fleas now than ever!! I gave it a chance by performing the second application the next month, and wow, more fleas, I even found a tick on the poor dog. DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT!! IT WON'T WORK, AND DON'T LET ANYONE TELL YOU DIFFERENT!!! DON'T LET THEM CONVINCE YOU THAT IS JUST THE WAY FOLKS ARE APPLYING IT OR USING IT (BATHING FOR EXAMPLE). I AM GOING TO CALL BANFIELD, AND IF I HAVE ONE MORE MISTAKE MADE BY THESE PEOPLE, I AM QUITTING THEM ENTIRELY! ( I DO BELIVE I GOT AN EXPERIENCED VET ONCE, AND I DID NOT LIKE HIM!!) AGAIN, DON'T BUY IT, AND I WANT MY MONEY BACK, THIS STUFF IS EXPENSIVE!! WHERE DO THEY GET THE NERVE TO KEEP SELLING IT!!!!

*** you Banfield. Way to ruin the reputation of vets everywhere.

You all should be ashamed, making cash by exclusively recommending or selling certain products instead of doing what is best for all types of dogs. Bunch of idiots.
