We went to the Banfield in Lakewood, WA for a cheap microchip ($25) since my regular vet charged $50.I was given a coupon for a free exam so I figured I could have my dog get a free look-over and a cheap microchip, maybe have a good experience and maybe go back. We...

Banfield Pet Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina - First Shield doesn't work

I went to Banfield to buy Frontline and was talked into First Shield instead. Three weeks after the first application my dog is covered with fleas and so miserable he keeps both of us awake half the night with his scratching and chewing. He's an inside dog and has had fleas only once before in 12 years. [Frankly I think he got them at the PetSmart grooming salon but that's another story.] My opinion is that this product is useless. I'm sorry to read other posts indicating all sales are final at Banfield. Guess I'm out the cost of the four doses I haven't used.

Just over a month ago I accidentally closed my 7 year old tabby's tail in the bathroom door. It was 11:00 on a sunday night and after finally coaxing him out from under the bed I was able to see the extent of the damage. About 3 inches of the tip of his tail was...

Banfield is not an emergency clinic. They have appointments and routine surgeries scheduled every day.

Emergencies are seen if they burst through the door and need immediate attention since turning a person away who is already there would waste precious time. However, getting upset because Banfield wouldn't cancel everything on the books for you immediately (and the day of, when pets were probably already getting prepped for surgery) is ridiculous. Banfield doesn't claim to be an emergency clinic.

If your pet requires emergency surgery, take him to an emergency clinic. You should be more mad at yourself for letting your cat suffer the night instead of getting him the surgery he required at the emergency clinic.

I just read all these comments, and am shocked at all the people that think the animal's care is somehow the responsibility of the vet and not the human. It is not the vets job to be an advocate for their client, it is to be an advocate for their patient.

This owner had ample opportunity to avoid this (spay the dog, dont breed the dog, if planning on breeding saving before hand, having pet insurance or saving account, etc) and neglected to do so. I say kudos to the clinic for finding a way to treat this pet, as the other option is euthanasia. And why are vets expected to be lending institutions. In several states, it would be illegal for vet clinics to have payment plans, as it is considered a loan, and I dont know any vet clinics with lending licenses.

That's what care credit and scratch pay are for. Thankfully it sounds like the dog was cared for in this situation, which means the vet did his/her job well.

15 week old puppy injured leg. Banfield xrayed said it wasn't broke and that the elbow needed to be reset. Stated they tried but pop right back out. Vet said she would try again although she didn't think it would stay. Well it didn't. So she said she would splint it to...

I am so sorry. I don't know where you live I am in michigan.

Here we have a wonderful Vet Teaching School. That I later found out has a 24/7 emergency center it is 97 miles from my home. They helped me with my puppy. They even assisted with the cost of surgery.

GO MSU!!! Great people, My puppy is doing fine now. Wish I would have known about this prior to Banfield. Not surprising you get 2 different stories.

The vet that saw my puppy has called several times, trying to convience me that she told me it was broke. Add insult to injury here.

PLEASE DONT TREAT ME LIKE I AM ***> "I don't see any fracture but it is dislocated." Back peddling all over. She did however admit to not splinting it but says that because she couldn't find anything to splint it with she did find the charge for it though because I paid for it.

Going to Banfield is like buying a car. They start at a crazy amount to see if you will pay the price to get your pet well... then they go back and forth to talk to the the vet. to bring the price down to what you will pay ! Good luck if you go here, I have read...

I went in to get Frontline and Banfield told me that they now carry First Shield and it had the same ingrediant "LIERS"! My poor cat went under the bed and stayed there.

I had to bring her food and water and push it under the bed or I believe she would starved or dehydrated herself to death. About 4 days later I cokest her out and OW MY GOD! Not only was all of her hair missing where we put the *** on, but she had scratched the hair off the entire circumference of her neck. Around her neck were scabs, fleshy meat, and ozz.

They where horrible gaping wounds. Can you imagine the burning and pain she was in to scratch that much in a matter of 4 days?

I took her to the vet and he looked up first shield, because he had never heard of it. Upon looking it up, he said he had never heard of the ingredients listed in this product.

My cat was given 2 shots and seems to be healing, but this is rediculious. I know the hundreds upon hundreds of complaints have reacted Banfield and the creaters of First Shiled, but they still continue to sell it!!

Not only am I waiting for a class action law suit to start (so I can join), but I will never shop at Pet Smart, much less go near their vet again! Not only did they almost kill may cat, but they owe me $200.00 in vet bills.

Glad you declined! I had all 3 of my dogs on the highest plan and they still always billed me hundreds of dollars in charges and they wrongly KILLED my dog, Missy on 11/25/14

I will NEVER go back and have boycotted all products made by the mars Candy Company who owns Banfield. You can read my dogs story at banfieldkilledmissy.com
