Our puppy (1 year and 4 months) had been a patient of banfield for the last year and we were on the wellness program. We had been very happy up until now. Our puppy was fixed at banfield and then a year later was suffering some stomach problems. I took her severa;...

It seems like the vet did everthing he/she was suppose to up to the point of surgery. The vet should have sent you to the Emergency Referral place for the actual surgery, that could have made all the difference and possibly have saved your pet's life.

The only real issue I have with Banfield is that they are not a hospital, repeat: Not A Hospital, but a clinic. They can spay, neuter, dentals, general things but anything complicated I would steer clear away from them. Their vets are often fresh out of vet school and many of them are graduates of second rate schools, like the caribbean. I knew someone who went to vet school in Mexico for 15 dollars a semester because she knew banfield would take her in a heart beat and she would make a ton a money.

Thats the kind of vets they hire, and I forgot to mention they take vets with marks on the records, serious marks on their record from the AVMA. So just be cautious people.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Springfield, Virginia - Banfield=Real Rip off

About 2 weeks ago I took my puppy in because he was vomiting. I waited 3 hours before I was seen, and then when I finally got in a room they told me that I was going to have to leave him because they needed to do x-rays. I was told that the cost would be $300-$350. 2 hours later I go in to get my puppy and was escorted into the back. The doctor basically performed other tests that I did not authorize, and then bullied (saying I am a bad dog owner and irresponsible) into getting other tests done. The final cost came out to be $653; and boy was I upset! They told me my puppy has acid reflux and to give him Prevacid everyday. Really? All the time and money I spent and that is all they come up with? I signed a paper telling them to stop treatment and contact me if the price exceeded my estimate. Anyone else have a problem with them?

I actually just left Banfield with my sick dog (she has been vomiting and has had diarrhea for several days). I took her in 2 days and they did some tests which totaled about $150.

All the tests came back negative, so they prescribed a medicine for upset stomachs and a follow up exam. I went back this morning, ended up spending another $240 only to find out that those tests came up negative. Now they want to do X-Rays, but in the meantime have prescribed two more medications in the hope they might help, one for bacterial infections and one for viral infections. In other words, they have no idea what is wrong and are blindly prescribing her medication.

You would think that $400 later one would actually know what was wrong, but still they want me to come back again. I think I should just switch vets.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Washington, District Of Columbia - Banfield Inept Vet care cost us!

October 2009 we purchased an Aussie puppy from a very knowledgeable and professional breeder Two days later we had her checked out at Banfield At the time of the visit they insisted that she had to be vaccinated even though the breeder (vet tech and nurse) had already done her 6, 9 and 12 week vaccinations At the time she was 13 1/2 weeks We took her home and at first everything seemed fine Within a week this perfectly beautiful healthy pup had to be hospitalized and went through extensive tests and procedures as we fought to save her life. Tragically she passed away 3 days later We had only had her 13 days *3 in hospital fighting for her life) I contacted Banfield about the contract and they refused to allow us out Up to this we had already given them approx $500 1 prepayment to start plan, 1 for visit and 1 for ER care (of which they couldnt provide her the care she needed). The best they did was 50% of $300+ balance. Mounds of paperwork later we realized that she died from over vaccination The staff at our Banfield was so unsympathetic and acted like they could care less. We had had our cat there for 5 years (only due to some huge financial vet bills previously )and seemed ok w/ them I guess for me the biggest issue is their insistance of procedure- most vets will only allow 2 vaccines at a time I found out later and they hit her with at least 8 shots as well as heart worm and flea and tic As a side note they also gave her Worm Shield, any reputable vet is aware that Aussies can carry the MDR gene and heartworm is a red flag Our new vet will only allow Inteceptor Banfield seemed to have no knowledge of our dog breed In fact the vet commented about the size of her feet and commented about what a big dog she would be I then asked her if she knew anything about this breed and she did not respond They do have large feet but only get between 50-60 lbs She thought she would end up 100+ I told my husband when I got home that that vet would not care for her again I did not like her Our debt for this was over $8,000 and an incredible amout of heartache Never again!! Even our cat will not return I will eat the *** contract costs, cheaper than vet hospital The sad fact is that we thought we could provide affordable healthcare for our pets but the reality is their costs are more expensive and their quality is poor It will be cheaper for us to pay out of pocket for our new pup vs contract and all the addl fees they hit you with Not to mention I feel more secure knowing we wont be looking at some astronomical hospital bill from Banfields ineptness. Just a side note we had not had a dog in about 18 years so we were novices to this whole thing it was only after all we went through all of this did we learn more than we ever wanted to about the risks etc of our pup. Really was crushed to find out that the Banfield vet was not the professional we thought she was and our trust in them was shattered. I also regret not checking them out better. Obviously there are so many w/ similar stories about malpractice w/ the animals. For them its the money, not the quality or care of the animal!!

Banfield Pet Hospital in Sarasota, Florida - Do NOT GO HERE!!!

I went in to get my dogs physical. They printed out a cartoon like thing for me and I walked out with my rabies tag. A month later my dog developed a cough..when I went to a REAL vet he told me dog had severe heart murumur. We had records sent from Banfield which listed the heart murmu never discussed with me. Just checked box on a cover sheet. Why was this not discussed with my options and testing needed. I called the vet as I could of been ahead of the game with help for my dog. Instead I watied a month and by then things hac moved so fast. They just bring you in room like cattle...no one even remembered my dog. Please don't be cheap and try and save a buck by going here....it cost me my dogs life too early!

Banfield Pet Hospital in Glassboro, New Jersey - Ripped my mother off with high Veterinarian bills.

My 82 year old mother has a part Bischon/Poodle who is a little more than a year old. Chloe is my mom's world, it is like her child. My mom took Banfields Pet Insurance through Pet Smart (Deptford, NJ) and has been nothing but ripped off from day one. The Veterinarian's that work in Pet Smart have told my mom that Chloe has had the most outrageous things wrong with her. One time Chloe was not alowed to get excited or play with other dogs for 2 weeks for fear it would kill her. Yesterday an xray of her intestines that cost $307.00. They told my mom it would have been over $1,000.00 without insurance. Well my friend just had her dog to her veterinarian for a whole panel of chest xrays and $50.00 worth of medication and the total bill was $182.00 including the medicine. I could go on and on but bottom line is Banfield and Pet Smart have ripped my mom off AGAIN and I will not let my mom go there again for anything. I intend to get all of Chloe's records and contact the Better Business Bureau for ripping off an 82 year old woman.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi - Banfield Sux

I took my new puppy to Banfield where they told me he was parasite free three days later he starts poopling blood and they tellme he is infested with hook, tape and round worms, then they over vaccinated him when I mentioned this they told me to give him bendryl. Then they told me that his neuter was included in the health plan, getting the appointment was *** but I got one dropped him off and got a call an hour later telling me it was going to cost 200.00 dollars....I had had enough I told them I was going to pick him up and not to do anything to him...they proceded to do do a list of things to him and when I picked him up he was dying of thirst. When I picked him up they gave me a 'report card' that said that he was pass due for a few vaccines...I called they told me that they put the wrong date in the computer and couldn't change it. Come on ..really???? They blamed my attitude but wouldn't they be upset if their baby recieved substandard care. This isn't everything there is sooooooooooo much more..STAY AWAY FROM BANFIELD IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET!!!!!!!!!!!

Some cats get very violent even with normal handling and restraint. They may not have DONE SOMETHING to him.

Cat bites are very nasty and almost always require anitbiotics. It's not their fault your cat is mean, if he bites them they can't just say nice kitty and continue to be bit. Some have to be sedated, should they do free sedation because your cat has to be sedated?

But try somewhere else, some people do better with cats than others. Except you probably got one of their wellness plans and they won't let you out of it..better catch it before it automatically renews!

I've never have had a problem with BANFIELD un til NOW...

I took my 13.4 lb. cat to banfield two weeks prior for a normal check up and vaccines, get him there, take him in the room and the nurse start checking him and says i have to take him to the back for fecal exam and draw blood, i was okay never had to before, well a few minutes later bring him back and he was not in the best of moods, then was told he bit one of the assistents, okay so what did they do, he has never acted that way before at the vet and i just wonder what the *** they did back there to *** him off that bad.

So the vet comes in to give him his vaccines, well low and behold he's already pissed and i normally can handle him, but not this time. WHAT DID THEY DO? So the vet tells me can i bring him back and drop him off and they will sedate him, like it was nothing.

dropped him off today, 2 hours later they call me up and say okay its going to be $95.00 to sedate the cat, excuse me... where did this come from, so now they won't treat my cat un less i dropp him off and the sedate him for another $95.oo a visit, some vet.

Thank you so much for your post. I had a very similar experience with our kitten after her first FVRCP vaccination.

Four days after getting vaccinated, her right hind leg and left front leg became lame. She could hardly walk by the day's end. We took her to the vet (VetWerx in Denver, CO) at the onset of the lameness and were told she should have a full set of x-rays, testing for leukemia and HIV. We paid $90 for the testing and decided to wait a couple of days before spending hundreds of dollars on x-rays (having had cats all my life, I've seen them get better on their own most of the time).

As soon as my husband and I got home from the vet, he researched our kitten's symptoms and found that lameness is often a reaction to the first FVRCP vaccination.

When I had asked the vet about that possibility during our appointment, she said it was highly doubtful beyond 72 hours. She was wrong -- in every article I've seen, these reactions commonly occur up to 3 weeks following the vaccination and usually subside within 4-7 days on their own.

That is exactly what happened in our situation.

My kitten is now due for her second round of this FVRCP vaccine and I am concerned about the risk factor. We are now going to a new vet but she doesn't seem terribly familiar with this reaction either (despite coming highly recommended by a friend).

I am wondering if anyone else has had this experience and can shed light on what they did when it came time for the second vaccine?

Banfield Pet Hospital in Triangle, Virginia - Banfiled is Bogus!

Last weekend a girlfriend recommended Banfield. I was looking to change providers and save money so I gave them a call and the 866 number on the website as easy. After taking my credit card info and referring me to the actual hospital I literally stumbled across this (pissed) website and saw their name. I saw the RED PAW with a flame on it and I thought "Oh my, is my cat in danger?" so I read the reviews. After reading I called to cancel. They said to call the site and back and forth I went. During one of the calls I said "I see why you have bad reviews" and the person on the phone questioned me. Amazing! I said that her questioning me is the proof. So after calling my local WELLNESS office I was told that someone called someone in corporate and I will be getting a call from someone to confirm refund. I explained the entire time that I know this may be difficult because my membership was only 20 minutes old. I was told it takes 2-3 days to show up but I only have 2-3 days to cancel. Confusing... During this experience I was put on hold more than 3 times and I was taken off hold and hung up on at least 2 times. I am sooooooooooooooooooooo glad I did not take my cat, Barack, to Banfield. If they keep my money I will fight it but my cat being treated with care, respect and dignity is priceless. DO NOT PATRONIZE Banfield. Maybe we can have enough effect that they close up shop or make some drastic changes.
