Negligence at Banfield Pet Hospital Took Our Dog Life

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Negligence at Banfield Pet Hospital Took Our Dog Life
Friday February 1 2019. My wife and I dropped off our two schnauzers for a routine teeth cleaning. Banfield Pet Hospital had been seeing our dogs with routine check ups for more than 5 years. Our oldest schnauzer of 9 years was in for her last visit. On November 5th 2018. During this exam the Dr. had mentioned to my that our oldest may have a heart murmur but not to worry " this happens to some dogs". Upon dropping both dogs off we asked and paid for Banfield run any additional tests prior to administering the anesthesia for the teeth cleaning. Our concern was for our oldest 9 year old dog which we were told had a heart murmur but not to worry. We are still not clear as to what tests Banfield had run prior to administering the anesthesia. We are still not clear as to what precautions had been taken for our oldest dog to give assurance she would wake up from the anesthesia. We were not given any answers as to why she did not wake up. Our dog is now gone and she will be dearly missed. We were told that they are very sorry but she did not awaken after the anesthesia. she was the greatest dog our family has ever had the privilege to raise. I know that I can never trust BANFIELD PET HOSPITAL with our other dogs. I am still looking for an answer as to what steps had been taken to prevent this death and why would they sedate a dog with a known heart condition and tell us she would be ok. We are told they will get back to us.

I’m very sorry for your loss. Schnaus are the best little dogs.

I wanted to note ‘routine teeth cleaning’ is a misnomer.

No anesthesia is routine, and it should never be treated as such. Even healthy animals (including humans) can die from general anesthesia.

Machele Imf

Sedating a dog with a possible heart murmur should not be a problem. You should get an itemized listing of all medication/sedation drugs administered to the dog.

Then, have another vet look over the listing to see what he thinks. You always have the option of seeing an attorney in anticipation of a wrongful death or malpractice claim against Banfield.

But, you need more info from them. If they continue to stonewall you, a letter from an attorney may help with their intransigence.

Banfield Hospital Killed Out Dog

Banfield Pet Hospital - Banfield Hospital Killed Out Dog

February 1, 2019

We brought our schnauzer to Banfield for a routine teeth cleaning but had concerns which we were told would be addressed and looked at prior to administering anesthesia. These concerns were ignored and the Negligence on Banfields part was the cause of our dogs death.

On a previous visit December 2018. The same vet handling our dogs teeth cleaning had told my wife our schnauzer may have a heart murmur but not to worry it happens with some dogs but was noted in her write up. On February 1 2019 we dropped our schnauzer off at 7:45 am for a routine teeth cleaning. Upon drop off we brought up the note to check with the dr about her heart condition and asked that a more extensive liver test be run in addition to the standard blood work test as assurance that she would be able to handle the anesthesia.

We we assured by the Banfield team this would happen and not to worry. 9:45 am that same morning we received a call that our dogs heart stopped after being administered the anesthesia. She was pronounced dead shortly after. We rushed to the Banfield center and I asked to see these lab results we had requested Banfield could not produce them.

I had asked what precaution was taken in regards to the heart condition we spoke of at 7:45 am that same morning. Banfield could not produce any documentation. The negligence of this facility resulted in the death of our once happy healthy family dog. I entrusted Banfield with her life and they ( Banfields) ignored our requests.

Our dog is now dead, so Banfield please explain to my child why his dog is gone. She was happy and healthy 9 year old schnauzer your recommendations were to be sure to bring her to us for teeth cleanings to help prolong her life But In fact it was her death sentence due to your Negligence.

How did you run the labs and have the results in under an hour and a half.? And now I read about all the dogs you people are killing across the country hundreds and hundreds of complaints.

I am very sorry for your loss. I wonder whether or not tests were actually done or not, as they should've been if you had requested it and if the doctor made a note of it.

As for 'how the blood tests could've been done in an hour,' blood tests only take about 1-2 minutes to run and receive results.

I am a vet tech, so I am the one doing these tests daily. But if they actually did do them, I don't see why they couldn't give you the results as the results are all recorded in the system immediately.

A cleaning teeth visit created my dog to be sick

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
February 2019 I brought my dog, Radley to the Northborough, Ma Banfield to have his teeth fully cleaned. Radley was playful, energetic, happy and HEALTHY!!! I had to drop him off at 7am. When I went to pick him up they informed he was fine but all of the sudden his liver level was extremely high!!! They said some antibiotics for his teeth were not available but would let me know when they were (never happened) they wanted me to reschedule for his liver and at the time... was like ok. After that day he was very slow to reaction and I could just tell something wasn’t right! Ever since that day his nose was messed up, eyes swollen, Weight lost and now back legs swollen! I have attempted several different vets and NOBODY can figure it out! Katlyn, the assistant I was dealing was a completely rude when I attempted to find out what was going on. No “is he ok” or any possible mistake they may have made. Instead she attempted to mainly belittle me and indicating they did nothing wrong!!!! The fact she immediately got defensive to what they did only makes me think they did do something wrong!!! Still on a mission to get my dog to back to what he was and I’ll never spend another cent at this hired off the streets veterinarians

Banfield Pet Hospital - The best
I had to put my cat to sleep due to end stage Kidney Disease. They were so kind. Wonderful doctor, had him cremated a personal one. I received MJ in a Cherry wood box with a goldtoned name plate, I got him back in a week. They also gave me a clay memento with his paw prints and name on it. The prices were reasonable. When I eventually adopt another kitty I will have her receive care there. Crafton/Ingram Shopping Center location. Awesome!

Some issues require prolonged treatment. Vets dont have magic wands, and sometimes things cannot be fixed instantly. That doesn't mean you are entitled to not pay for continued treatment.

You are so uneducated and ridiculous. I have worked at both banfield and private offices, and every single place charged a follow up visit.

It is usually a little less than the original exam price. & No, I don't work at Banfield anymore. In fact, I don't like them either.

I LOVE how people on here automatically assume you work for a company, just because you disagreed with them. So immature and ridiculous.

Only in it for the money

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
This is my opinion on banfield after I have a customer of theirs for far too long ( not by choice i might add. Its a long story). I feel that bandfields biggest priority is making money. One of my dogs has been going there since he was a puppy and its a rotating door of doctors. I have to reexplain everything to a doctor everytome he goes in. There has only been one doctor that I loved when we moved states for a short period of time. He was able to diagnose my dog woth his thyriod condition after spending large amounts of money on tests at the previous location. I feel that I spend so much money on uneccessary tests everytime I go in because the doctors make things sounds so serious and that my dog cannot live without this or that medication. I pay for thyriod medication for one of my dogs and I have to explain the amount and dosage when I pick it up. Then I pick it up and the medication is wrong. My dog is 10 years old and I have been dealing woth banfield for far too long. Everything is an upsale! I go in for something simple "oh if you upgrade your plan...." This is nonsense! Side note, my friends dog died suddenly (2 years old) and they still had to pay until theor contract was up! How sad and unfair. I NEVER recommend bandfield to our friends. I wish they cared more about the animals then they did about the money. Thats my two cents.

Looking for specific vet

A vet was filling in at the Banfield location I go to and he gave me a quote for surgery for my dog and I liked the way he said he would do the surgery. He is a floater in Charlotte and no one at Banfield seems to be able to locate him. His last name is Anderson and we are located in charlotte NC. Can you help locate him?

Elderly disabled fur baby not helped

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We took a rescue that had a horrible worsening cough to Banfield. We were 15 mins late and were not allowed to see vet to ask questions or wven for the visit. My son did not understand what the vet explained when they called. When we returned to pick up we were again not able to talk to the vet. We were sent our way with dewormer and the receptionist telling us to log in the next day and make a profile to see the note. Til this day there are no notes and the 10-15 yr old rescuse that is almost completely blind and hard of hearing, still has problems with that cough that at times worsens.

Sent me to collections for a bill I’ve paid in full!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My dog was boarded at Petsmart Hotels for a week. She got sick while I was away and they treated her.

I opted for an extra allergy test too so perhaps we could figure out what keeps triggering her. I picked her up, banfield was closed so I couldn’t pay them that night. I called them the next day and they wouldn’t accept payment over the phone. I live an hour from them, they had no online payment system.

The soonest I could get there was 2 more days because of work. They agreed but said my account would be in collections, but it won’t go anywhere once I paid. I showed up and paid my $800 bill in full. Girl said my account would still say collections but it’s a technicality and not really in collections.

Low and behold a month later I get a collections letter from IC Systems for the Banfield vet bill. They have no record of payment, their hours are only M-F.

So now, this will hit my credit report for something I’ve already paid them for. I’m never coming back, and I’ll never board at Petsmart Hotel again.

Do Not Take Your Beloved Pet to Banfields

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user May 02, 2019

The Banfield Vet Hospital I am reviewing is in Davis, California I have yet to hear one word from the Banfield Vet Hospital in Davis, CA after I notified them that my dog died only days after being seen in their clinic where I took my dog as he had been coughing. The vet I saw did not tell me to come back for a recheck and she failed to call or have one of her staff call to check to see if my dog was any better.

She only administered antibiotics for him even though I made it very clear he was there due to having a cough. I now know there is absolutely no way she could have effectively treated a dog brought in for a cough without administering certain tests. Without these tests she was merely guessing as to what was wrong with my dog. Dogs more often than not, do not exhibit outward signs of pain or distress.

I also did not know this at the time. She gave me no warning signs to watch for.

I now know that when and if he began to pant that I should immediately take him to a vet. She also failed to ask me if he had exhibited any of the 10-15 symptoms associated with heart problems which are very common in small breeds…especially Chihuahuas (which my dog was.) She only spent about 3-4 minutes with my dog and then she left and sent me home with enough antibiotics for 21 days.

Original review May 02, 2019
I took my male Chihuahua to Banfields because he had been coughing. I now know that coughing is a red flag for a vet and that it can be a life or death situation if not handled properly. I did not know this information when I took my dog in or I would have demanded that a more thorough examination and tests be run. The vet spent very little time with my little dog. She listened to his heart. She said she felt he must have some sort of infection and sent us home with antibiotics he was to take for 21 days. He died a few days later. I spoke with a few vets after he passed and they said that when a client brings in a dog and says the dog has been coughing that they must run blood tests, urinalysis and x-rays in order for them to have any idea what is really wrong. Without the most basic of tests, a vet will have to 'guess' what is wrong and this could cost the pet his life. It did. Never was I told that my dog needed blood work, a urinalysis or any type of x-ray. If I had been told this, I would have said "yes, please do whatever is necessary." I am so sorry that I took my dog to this vet hospital. I've now read so very many complaints against this business. If only I had taken the time to search for this type of info. I let my little dog down and yes I'm heartbroken. But I feel responsible for his death.

They killed my cat due to neglect and refusal of treatment

Banfield Pet Hospital - They killed my cat due to neglect and refusal of treatment

My oldest cat was diagnosed with high blood pressure from a new vet that I had to take her to Because banfield stated to me that she had no pre existing conditions that was of concern to check her blood pressure 4th monitored on a regular basis keep in mind that she had hypothyroidism as well as kidney failure and most doctors will check and monitor blood pressure when they have these conditions. But the doctors at the band feel that I used to go to said there's no reason to test her and if we do take her blood pressure we have to charge you an extra 40 bucks really I took a for a second opinion and her blood pressure was 267 / 147. I was also told that she was blind and the doctor had no compassion or empathy and could not explain why or how she went blind because of the fact that she was never treated for high blood pressure because of their lack of knowledge experience and neglect

I am truly am very sorry for your loss. How many times was the blood pressure checked at the new vet?

Once? Most cats are extremely stressed out when they go to the vet. If your cat is stressed at the vet, taking the blood pressure is basically pointless. It will be high because they are stressed.

That being said, your cat was old, had kidney failure and had hypothyroidism (are you sure it wasn't herPERthyroid? Hypothyroid isn't common in cats, it is common in dogs) . I highly doubt that Banfield is at fault for your cats passing. & No, I do NOT work for Banfield.

I did, for 6yrs. I was actually fired for literal made up reasons all because the manager didn't like me. They lost clients when I left, the vets even said that I didnt do anything. So I definitely would not be sticking up for that company.

However, whether I hate a company / person or not, if they are being bashed for something they did not do, I will stand up for them. Nobody should be bashed for something they didn't do. Many people on here who claim a vet killed their pet, are actually wrong.

They are sad and upset due to their pets passing and are just looking for someone to blame. I understand that, but that doesn't make it okay.

I'm sorry that you lost your beloved pet. I lost my sweet miniature poodle after 14-1/2 years right before Christmas.

I know exactly how you must feel, but grief is bad enough without recriminations ; you won't be able to grieve properly with that issue hanging over your head. Sometimes even when we know exactly and correctly what the problem is, there's nothing we can do but commit them to the Lord ; I held her as she died.

Poor service, extremely expensive, incapable

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Do not choose Banfield Pet Hospital, especially if your pet is a cat! Every time my girlfriend and I took her cat over there, they were not able to find out the cause of the problem so that they can't treat the cat. In addition to giving recurring excuses like your cat is aggressive, which is not, the staff is rude (no matter where you go, we have been to three different hospitals in Florida in different towns), and the service is just very poor. First, they are not experts at all. Second, no matter why you go there, they run certain tests, most of which are not required, and they charge you a lot. My cat had some blood clot in his fecal, which could be a symptom of a few diseases, they charge us $350 for telling us your cat is aggressive and we couldn't finish the tests so that just take your cat and give us $350 for the unfinished tests. When I refused to pay, they easily blackmailed the cat. They were not giving the cat until I paid $350 for literally nothing. We were also paying $300 for the annual membership. At the end of the day, I ended up paying $650 for hearing that my cat is aggressive and he still has the same issue as before. I am talking about the branch located in Waterford, Alafaya, Orlando, FL. We ended up calling a vet who is working in my home country. After 30 minutes talk, he provided us with the medication and the treatment, and it worked out! no test, no payment! Good job Banfield!

Nearly killed my dog

During routine exam vet said my dog needed heart worm injection. I had just told the vet that my dog was at least 10 years old, very sensitive to all foods, medicines and had a terrible reaction to flea/tick prevention meds. Vet said injection was necessary. Gave shot and within 5 minutes my dog began throwing up. I was still at the clinic and an aide took my dog to the back, returned within a few minutes, without my dog. Aide told me that my dog had gone into anaphylactic shock, she continued to throw up and her gums had lost color. And to be prepared that it could be fatal and they would monitor her in their "hospital" all day. Luckily she survived. I went home, in shock myself, and googled heart worm injections. Saw that it was not recommended for older dogs and had just been cleared to administrate to dogs without having to advise and obtain written consent from dog owner to give shot. Reason was the incidents of bad reactions to the shot. And I had to pay for the shot. I was reimbursed for the shot but not told anything else. I believe this was a good example of Banfield's dangerously poor vet service.
