Where I worked (NY State) we were absolutely forbidden to take any pets outside because of the risks of lawsuits if they escape or get injured on a walk. Its not because the people working there were mean - policy just dictated that we could not do it or we could be fired or written up if we broke policy.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Chicago, Illinois - Not a bad place

I really have no complints with Banfield. Except when I brought my cat in for a dental cleaning that was made a month earlier, doubled checked the day before, and when I got there, they had the cleaning for a dog that had the same name as my cat. But they still took him in for his yearly check up... even with there insurence plan I still spent 119,.00 dollars for fle and tick product that i could have gotten cheaper right next door at petsmart. Only complint..think twice about buying the pet insurence, my cat diet 3 months later, and they still want me to pay for the full year... don't think so

It is Banfield, I believe her. How many animals do they kill a week?

They have *** from third world countries as vets. It sounds like some cannot even successfully give vaccinations or diagnosis normal issues animals experience. I can visually diagnosis manage, ringworm, and parvo. What idiots do not know know holding techniques, or easy stuff I learned in a shelter.

Geezs, I would never in a million years send my pets there! *** unskilled, over charging, negligent, unfriendly, over booked and just plain money hungry. She lost her dam dog!

I would refuse to pay and tell you all where to go. All Banfield does is kill animals, period.

Banfield Pet Hospital - Wondering if all Banfield Vets are all fully licensed.

I'm wondering if all the Vets that work at Banfield are fully licensed and have their medical degree? Or are some of the Vets on staff still in school and going through on the job training while working at Banfield. i.e. Pre-Med/Practical training under the supervision of a licensed on staff vet. I personally have several concerns as not only being a puppy Wellness plan purchaser but also having over a 20 year background in the medical field myself. I've observed several medical wellness checks by various staff members both vets and Techs at Banfield that I find questionable as to the individuals medical background knowledge and abilities to perform a comprehensive routine exam.

All vets at Banfield are fully licensed. You MUST be licensed in order to practice veterinary medicine.

There are 2 types of techs: a registered veterinary technician, and an unregistered tech/assistant. RVTs go through 2 years of schooling and take a licensing exam. They are generally more educated than unlicensed techs and can perform some procedures that unlicensed techs cannot. There is no formal requirement for unlicensed techs.

They can be hired with zero experience or education. When I worked at Banfield, we didn't have any RVTs because my manager didn't want to have to pay someone more. Most of our unlicensed techs had previous experience, but a couple were hired with no experienced and had to be trained on the job. An unlicensed or licensed tech can take vitals, give injections, and perform various other treatments.

There is a mentorship training program where vet students come for a summer. However, they work in the capacity of a technician and get some mentorship from the vets.

They don't perform procedures that a technician would not be allowed to do.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Miami, Florida - Customer service was nonexistent, facility was dirty

Came 20 min early for my appt, checked in, then at the appt time I was told my appt was actually for 1 1/4 hours LATER, they would not accept responsibility for misscheduling. Then they told me someone cancelled at my appt time but they would not work me in, they would do two later appts first! Manager kept me waiting five minutes then refused to let me go through the description of what had been happening. Then asked who I spoke with on the phone. No one there says their name their when answering the phone. Like this was going to prove they didn't make a mistake? Then had the nerve, when I turned away to leave, to say, wait I was going to offer you something! I said the only thing you could offer me would be to see my pet at the time you had scheduled it. Had already been apprehensive because the waiting room smelled. I would recommend never going to this place. (Banfield at Petsmart on Kendall and 140th, Miami FL)

Reading reviews on this place makes me want to drive to my vet right now and kiss him. So sorry that so many people have to deal with this place--it sounds like it is run by monkeys (thinking actual monkeys may do a better job).. Hope that there is another vet nearby that is competent and can see these patients-- a loss of over 370,000$ on them and not 1 resolved complaint--shame on them!!

Banfield Pet Hospital in Alcoa, Tennessee - Spent $2000 and my dog was still sick with no diagnosis

I took my sick chihuahua to Banfield on a Sunday because my regular vet was closed. My dog wouldn't move, eat, or drink, so I did not want to wait until Monday to take her to the vet. After 4 visits to Banfield in 1 week and spending $2000 my dog was still sick and the vet was unable to determine the cause of her illness after many tests. Banfield wanted to sign me up for an additional $15 per month on my recently purchased plan of $60 per month for services that my dog did not need. Since Banfield vets were unable to cure my dog, I took my dog to my regular vet who determined the cause of my dogs illness after one visit. She gave my dog appropriate treatment and my dog was well after one week.

I feel bad for you. I believe you. I have read many many many negative reviews of the banfield pet hospitals across the nation. According to many many clients, the vets are taught to be salespeople first not veterinarians. I too took my pets to banfield, and it was horrible. They didn't even know the breed. The vet kept calling my dog a shih-tzu no matter how many times I told her he is not. He does not even look like a shih-tzu. All she had to do was look at the paper to see his breed and she had already finished examining him. He has very little plaque on his teeth and yet she said he needed a cleaning. "Really? You will put a pet under dangerous anesthetic just to brush his teeth?" ...I thought to myself.

She tried to push vaccines on my dog who already had his shots the year before and were good for 3 years (at least) according to the manufacturer of the vaccine. She was a horrible horrible "uneducated" "vet".

When you share your experience and you see people defending the other party, you can be sure that it's either:

A) the vet or her colleagues trying to lie and save face

B) Employees of the company you are complaining about

C) Friends or others they have persuaded to defend them and try to cover up their wrong D) complete and total *** on the Internet that have no life and have nothing better to do than to cloud valid and important warnings with their garbage 2 cents, spewing what they know nothing about. But even with all that, there will always be intelligent people that will heed your warning and not go to the company you are sharing your bad experience about

File a written complaint against Banfield with the State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners. (May be called something a little different in your state.) Call the Office of Consumer Protection or your Attorney Generals Office and ask where to file your complaint.

Dont let them get away with their ignorance!
