BANFIELD KILLED MY 5 MONTH BABY GERMAN SHEPHERD

Banfield Pet Hospital - BANFIELD KILLED MY 5 MONTH BABY GERMAN SHEPHERD
Banfield Pet Hospital - BANFIELD KILLED MY 5 MONTH BABY GERMAN SHEPHERD - Image 2

I had a five month old German Shepherd and I was taking him regularly to Banfield Pet Hospital on 6134 E. Colonial Dr Orlando, FL 32807, every time we went in there they said our dog was perfectly normal and healthy. We were paying for the best treatments, and they told us he had neutering in the package that we were purchasing and they said it would be a simple procedure that they always do and we could even add his hernia procedure in there as well. I dropped him off on Saturday February 16th, 2014 without even saying goodbye to him because i thought I would see him back at 5 p.m. like they said.

My boyfriend told them before doing any procedures to please call him so that they could tell him the estimate price, and they never called regardless that I was the one dropping him off he wanted them to call him first.

After the procedure when they called my boyfriend and I in to tell us our dog had passed they wouldn't give us any reason as to why he passed except that at first they were saying he had a "heart attack" but towards the end told us they have no idea as to why he passed. one of the veterinarians also said she had witnessed Keyz open his eyes before the took the oxygen off of him and when we spoke to the second vet performing the procedure she said the other vet was not even in the room.p

i would like a thorough investigation done on Banfield pet hospital on 6134 E. Colonial Dr Orlando, FL 32807 with an investigation on the process and the veterinarians and the technicians, on their policies and procedures to determine that their priority is for the pets health, and not just as an assembly line.

PLEASE SOMEONE I NEED HELP, I WANT TO CHANGE THIS RE-OCCURRENCE OF DEATHS, AND HORRIBLE NEGLECT.

ANYONE WHO KNOWS ANYTHING TO HELP ME.

My email is fhaxhaj11@***.com

They killed my dog , investigation ongoing , they need to be shut down ! I’m very sad for your loss!

Guest

I realize that this is an old thread. My heart cries for your pain, I lost my dog two years ago as well, my dog passed away from vet negligence, is such a painful experience, I hope that your heart is healed and you had a satisfactory resolution.

Guest

I'm so sorry that happened our pets are our families and our babies. I wouldn't trade my vet for anything in the world been going to them for 11 years.

If you ever need a vet they are;

Pershing Oaks Animal Hospital

Orlando, FL

corner of Goldenrod Rd and Pershing.

My heart goes out to you and i hope justice is done for the loss of your "Baby", pets are like family to me

It sounds to me as if they may have over sedated the puppy causing him to either go into cardiac arrest. Its not a good idea to sedate, neuter or spay a pet until their at least 8 months old unless an its a emergency surgery situation.

I usually wait until my animals are a year old before I have them spayed or neutered. Less chance of serious complications.

I'm sorry for your loss.

Actually, it is easier on the pet (and the surgeon) to spay before the pet goes into heat- less risk of hemorrhage, faster surgery, etc. As for neutering, early neuter decreases the chance of the male developing bad habits of marking or becoming aggressive.

Please file a complaint with the state board of veterinary medical examiners and the BBB. Also boycott ALL Mars Candy Company Products and get everyone you know to do the same.

They make all of the popular candies, plus so much more. Many popular pet foods, including Nutro, Greenies, Pedigree, Whiskas and so much more. They also make food, such as Uncle Bens Rice and drinks. They also make fancy coffee makers and coffee and teas for them.

Mars Candy Company owns Banfield. Hit them where it hurts! Stop buying all of their products! I have!

They also perform deadly, painful testing on animals.

Go to marscandykills.com and see a gruesome devastating video for yourself. Then ask yourself, is that bag of M and M's worth it?

Guest

You went to a chain vet and you're surprised? How many complaints do you see on this site with chain Medical, Dental and Vets?

When will *** people stop going to chain healthcare facilities? You went because it's "convenient" and now you maybe understand why you shouldn't go to a chain.

These chains are driven by money and expansion not by taking care your health. Don't be ***.

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-1013040

Precisely. Maybe it's all the misspelled or incoherent comments, but I really get the impression that these chain clinics appeal primarily to the lazy and/or ***.

Guest

You shouldn't neuter a shepherd until he is full grown. Otherwise you are asking for hip issues.

They simply don't developed correctly when neutered. I suggest anyone who is going to look at neutering weigh the options. Please do complete research on the subject before taking the vets word for it. Many vets simply do not read the current research on the subject.

Banfield gave me a hard time about neutering our shep. After talking to other vets and legit research we passed. We also finally got off that crack plan they sell you. Our Shep is 3 years old, totally healthy and has 0 "bad habit" doesn't spray anywhere blah blah.

I'm terribly sorry for your loss, if you replace that puppy please google reasons why you should not neuter him. He has a better chance at being healthy and happy without it and stay away from Banfield unless you like throwing your money away for bad care.

Banfield & PetSmart Abusers and Consumer Fraud

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I second your emotions right now! I am furious about the treatment of Princess Rose. The Wellness Plan is well, trash. Princess Rose has been treated with Banfield doctors and staff and every time she comes out of there she begins to shake uncontrollably and as if I have just left her in ***. She runs from the doctors and with fear. Let me just say that I know Princess Rose and her behaviors. All dogs have certain behavior patterns. Well, Princess Rose came from an abuse home and working with her to build her confidence and self-esteem was damned difficult for a hospital and PetSmart to destroy it. I am fuming. I am paying 66.95 for her plan and was informed that this would take care of all of her needs. Lies! I have paid more money during every visit than I pay for the plan. I have paid over 700.00 in just a few visits and the doctor wanted to administered very expensive exams and sort of made me feel as if I were a bad pet owner or parent because I did not want to pay to administer. So after viewing her report, the doctor stated that her condition was poor and needed improvement. Some pills were prescribed that immediately helped P. Rose and her health was stabilized. I think Banfield takes advantage of their patients and pet owners. When I asked what was the plan really for they stated, "It is for your well pet and not for a sick pet." Well, ***, I thought this was like a plan that would cover all of this. I also spoke to Banfield today and spoke to a very rude and confrontational rep who I could have slapped three times over for being verbally abusive. I am so frustrated because P. Rose has had to suffer double the abuse and I am fuming here. Thank God she entered a supportive and loving home, but Banfield has not heard the end of me. PetSmart should be closed down for animal cruelty and charging fraud. I wanted Princess Rose to socialize with other people and dogs because she is very sociable. I do not want her to lose that about her. She is very friendly and docile. She can been dominant, but it is never to the point where it becomes aggression. She protective of her pack and is very friendly and welcoming even with cats! I just cannot understand how people can be so cruel to an animal even to the most difficult animals. P. Rose stood over night at PetSmart and I asked them to groom her fully. She was supposed to be groomed by 1:00 pm the next day. I decided to pick her up a little after her grooming time and called to add additional services before my arrival at 4:00 pm. When I arrived to pick her up she had not eaten the entire night, which means she starved the night through. Apparently dogs become excessively thirsty after having stayed away from home. Princess drinks a certain amount of water at her discretion and no more than she is accustomed by choice. Well, when she arrived she drank nearly three times as much and continued to drink as if she had not drank anything for a full day. I was devastated and felt like having the whole staff investigated and arrested for animal cruelty. To make matters worst, I saw the grooming done. P. Rose when I leave her air dry her hair becomes as though she has locks of curls. She was not properly groomed and I was charged 116.00 for a one night stay and full package grooming at PetSmart 117th Street Mall. What a disgrace! I will never take her to stay there again and am looking for a VET HOSPITAL that really cares and does not care to overcharge their customers. Now, P. Rose does not gravitate to people like she used to do and is very cautious. I do not think this is okay for anyone to do to an animal or people. I left my receipt or printout of services rendered and charges and the staff members confiscated the document and trashed it. When I called to request a copy PetSmart staff stated that this could not be produced again. More lies! P. Rose was never properly groomed and only had a shampoo and rinse. Her ear hairs were ever removed, front paw nails never filed down, and no blow dry, her hair was never cut. She probably was not taken to day care and the ice cream was probably never given to her. I am very distraught over this and seeking an agency or someone to help me with this animal cruelty situation. Check this out! Banfield stated that because I agreed to a plan that I owe them a considerable amount of money for services rendered about $800.00 and until I am not done paying this I will not be able to cancel my services. I asked to speak to a supervisor and I am being given the run around and no one has called me to date. Let me clarify, I owe banfield absolutely nothing. I do not owe them a penny and have paid for all services rendered. I am calling the hospital directly because I am done with them and I am challenging the payments taken. Thieves!!!!!!!!! Abusers!!!!!!! NOTE: IF YOU ARE WISE DO NOT PUT YOURSELF OR YOUR DOG THROUGH THIS ORDEAL. I had no idea and thought that I was providing the best possible care for my dog P. Rose. I am taking her elsewhere and doing a search. I am welcome and open to any suggestions. I wanted to second your feelings ZsRaven. I am one determined pet owner to put an end to pet cruelty and consumer fraud.

Yet another upset person because they didn't read a contract that THEY signed!! Retarded.

I also have a plan & read clearly in all the papers they gave me that IS NOT INSURANCE, it covers office visits, vaccines and a set of bloodwork each year. If you had read the contract YOU signed YOU would know this! Most pets don't like going to the vets because they get injections and don't like their temprature being taken, how is that abuse? It has to be done.

What is the alternative? Nothing you are describing is animal cruelty btw. You just sound like a rambling nut job.

As far as pets not drinking/getting scared at a daycare. She is an abuse case......what did you expect?

That she would love being surrounded by strange people and dogs in a noisy enviroment????

If you care that much don't leave her on her own, or leave her with a friend that she feels comfortable with. The grooming not being done is really the only think that you might even have a right to get upset about.

They wouldn't see my pet (emergency) without an appointment

I've always been a client of Banfield, until today that is.

I always took my pet for everything there, I kept going because I love Dr. Arnold, after she left I wasn't sure if I was going to keep going there, and I did for a while. Today, my dog injured her paw, we had no idea what happened, she was out playing (and yes we were watching here that's why we got so scared, because it happened all of the sudden) so we didn't know if it was a spider *** or what, she was shaking, crying, licking her paw, she was OBVIOUSLY in a lot of a pain, and one vet was outside so I asked her, it is an emergency I don't know what's going on, can you check her please? she said, do you have an appointment? so my answer was no, it was an accident so she said, then I can't help you, so the front receptionist asked what was going on, I told her, and I asked, can anyone see her please? just look at her! and she said: we don't take care of emergencies here, so no.

So I had to drive looking for another place to check my pet, I finally did and they saw her the moment I walked in since they saw that she was in so much pain, so I can promise you I WILL NEVER go back to that hospital. Never in my life I've felt so angry! I called to ask another Banfield and told them what happened (just to see if it was true they don't see emergency patients) and they said they had to see her, but of course I didn't go back and will not go back ever again to that Banfield.

And if they don't take patients with emergencies, they should take down the "we take care of emergencies first" paper they have on the window.

Front desk staff extremely rude, vets give horrible treatment. Even called to cancel my plan and the people were EXTREMELY rude to me. My dog has been on three rounds of antibiotics for a UTI and when I complained about how it wasn't resolved they said "we can test his urine to see exactly what antibiotics to use" I couldn't believe they had not done that already after me spending hundreds of dollars for urine test and antibiotics, what had they been doing?! Also I found a three week old kitten that they treated incorrectly for worms and fleas and it almost died from anemia because it was infested with worms and fleas and they gave me one dose of dewormer and told me to come back in three weeks and told me to do nothing for the fleas. I brought her to another vet who game me dewormer for three days and then told me to wait and when the work eggs hatched give her dewormer for another three days, and they told me to give her a bath to get rid of the fleas or she would die from anemia, her gums were white and she was listless. After that the worms were gone and she was perfect! Now she's a year old and perfectly healthy.

Malpractice, wrongful exams and wrong prescription handed

This incident report was sent through with the Better Business Bureau where our requests were further ignored by the corporate offices at Banfield Pet Hospital, and in the end left unresolved. We have been trying to contact the Director for over 4 weeks to discuss our numerous complaints with the La Cienega branch. We expect an actual response from Banfield Pet Hospital for solutions to the many issues with this branch. Not only should the medical records be reviewed by the Director, but they should also speak with the Nursing staff and Manager of the La Cienega branch. After this review the Director will see that we have been mistreated and our dog has suffered because the mistakes made by the staff. The manager has stated that he has not properly trained his nursing staff, admitting fault that will result in more customers complaining about this branch. We expect a full review of our case and a response within 10 business days.

The settlement that we request is for our entire bill from Saturday July 19th to be refunded due to the wrong test being administered on our dog, alongside our Petsmart insurance membership to be cancelled with no penalty and a full refund for the membership.

----

We (in regards to our dog Charlie) have been calling the Banfield Pet Hospital headquarters for over a month filing numerous complaints with corporate leading to zero response. During our normal check-up with The Banfield Animal Hospital in West Hollywood on Monday, July 14, 2014, we were informed that Charlie had a yeast infection in his ears, and were prescribed medication for that.

Five Days later, Charlie was extremely sick. So when we came to this practice with our sick dog, they made us wait over two hours to be seen by a VET although their sign displays "sick dogs are seen first". Meanwhile, we watched dogs coming in for annual vaccinations be priority, alongside phone calls taking precedence over us as well. The nurse who ended up seeing us tells us that she just realized we have been given the wrong medication for Charlie that we have been using for the past FIVE days on him. She "just" realized the night before and decided to wait for us to come in to tell us the news instead of telling us immediately. At this point it was too late and our dog's infection had spread since it was not being treated correctly.

When the VET came in to check him and although Charlie displayed no signs of diarrhea or vomiting, she suggested he may have an intestinal infection. The Doctor said that she will first start with the blood test to compare results with his normal white blood cell count. And she also tried to push x-rays on us, alongside an intestinal check. When we came back to pick Charlie up after the testing, they charged us for the Intestinal test instead of the blood test (which is covered by our insurance), and of course they found no results with that specific test.

The next day, we awake to Charlie barely moving, lethargic, and with a large swollen lymphnode. Rushing him to the pet hospital on Sunday, we of course had to wait another 2 hours to be seen by a VET although ours was clearly the emergency.

The doctor then recommends that perhaps the blood test should be administered. They of course find that his white blood cell count was triple the original and that he needed to be attached to an IV for the rest of the day, and the next day.

They also had to send a sample of his swollen lymph node out to the lab which they told us we would find the results in one to three days at most, therefore the latest being Wednesday of that week. When we retrieved no results from them, on Wednesday we had to discuss with them on the phone an hour before they closed that they promised us that we would have the results by the latest on that day. They finally called us 10 minutes before they closed since they miraculously found the results right after we hung up the phone with them.

Since, this time we have been filing numerous complaints with Banfield Pet Hospital and have yet to receive a response. The Customer Advocacy Center is "appalled" every time he has called as to the delay in response time. However, this has given us absolutely no results. At this point the Manager is avoiding all phone calls and will not return any messages. He also informed us that the owner of the store has been away on vacation, and although she has returned she has been avoiding our calls as well.

We do not trust their services since they only administer tests and services for financial gain. On top of it, their medicinal malpractice and recklessness could have left our dog dead. What does it take to bring this business to an end? Does it have to be the death of multiple animals? They are absolutely careless people who should not be allowed to be in this type of profession that have the lives of innocent animals in their hands.

I agree, if you want to save your pet, keep it at home. My dog, Missy would still be alive if I didnt take her to Banfield, in Deptford, NJ on 11/25/14 .

Read her full story at banfieldkilledmissy.com. All they care about is racking up charges. They dont care about your pets. There is one good vet there though that I love and who you can truely tell is there for animals.

It is Jan Oliver. So sad she wasnt in on the day I took Missy in. I have no doubt she would still be alive if she wasnt seen by Dr Sara Garrison and Dr Amber Karwacki. I cant even stomach calling those 2 doctors.

I will miss Dr Oliver, but I am NEVER giving any Banfield or Petsmart another cent.

I hope Dr Oliver realizes that the entire Banfield company EVERYWHERE is a bad place and she will leave and not be associated with such a horrible place. Being associated with such a corupt place could ruin her career.

Wellness Plan Scam Lawsuit

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

People should be aware that the 'savings' they are supposed get on Wellness Plans are artificially inflated, so it looks like you are 'saving' hundreds. Its a scam for the uninformed. Like marking a piece of furniture up 200% so that you can 'discount' it but still sell it for a profit.

Do your research, call your local vets for costs to see what the average is for your area before deciding on comitting to at least a year of payments that you cannot get out of, even of your pet dies.

There is a Class Action Lawsuit about this:

Same thing happened to me. My dog was euthanized, and I had to pay $257 to get out of the contract.

It’s just business for them. They know how much we love our pets and they figured out how to profit from it.

My health chichua died during teeth cleaning

My healthy 9yr old chichua died during her teeth cleaning. This wasn't her first time getting a dental cleaning. Normally it would go fine. Doctor said this time he did one side of the mouth and turned her over, and she started to regain conscious so he turn up anesthesia. He step and away and said the assistant said her heart stopped. He said he preformed cpr. She was injected twice with the drug too restart her heart. But nothing. "Sometime these things happen."The doctor said. I did everything I was suppose to too take care my dog (my baby). This is devasting. I allowed the to do a norcrospy on her. After this what do I do now? Do I sue banfield. I feel he shouldn't left her and stepped away from her while on antheisia.

What attorney did you use or how did you take action.

Guest

Yes , Please take action now.

I just had the same experience here in Atlanta .

with my Maltese, only she died the next day ....less than 24 hours after teeth cleaning . Please we must get the word out about this.

Guest

What the person below says is true, there is always a risk of death with anesthesia, even in an apparently healthy young pet & even in animals that have done well under anesthesia before. It is not something that should be undertaken lightly for this reason.

Now it may or may not be that you have a case to sue.

You need to request a FULL copy (including all anesthesia/cpr records) of your pets medical records & take them to a laywer who has some knowledge of medical malpractice/veterinary malpractice. IF it turns out that the Dr gave any inappropriate doses of anesthesia or left your pet unattended (or only under the supervision of an unlicensed nurse) then you may have a case. You may also need sworn statements from the person/s that told you he left your pet unattended.

This can be really tricky because if they work for Banfield they could be at risk of getting fired for providing that statement.

Good luck getting to the bottom of it, I hopewhatever you find brings you closure & peace

Guest

There is ALWAYS a risk with anesthesia, just like in people.

Customer Service horrible

Have been taking my dog to Banfield for last year in Plainville CT. Last few months have been taking my pet for a serious problem he has been having. Was told twice that he had ear infection and was given medicine and ear swab was taken. Moose was not getting any better so finally in desperation I took him to another vet and he has a very serious infection in his head....NOT HIS EARS so therefore being treated incorrectly for past months has put him in a serious situation. Everytime I have visited Banfield, the customer service is terrible. Everytime I have called to get my dog in because of an issue with him, I am immediately told "no appointments open today, but you can "drop" him off and we will look at him between appts...I am not looking for grooming, I am looking for medical treatment because of a problem. One instance recently I had a vet who was filling in at Banfield that day. She proceeded to tell me she didn't know what was wrong with him...that was end of appt !!! I have voiced my opinion directly by phone to supervisor at that location. Of course that was two days after I made initial call to end my relationship with this hospital and was told by tech that she did not know what day her supv was working. All in all horrible customer service and more important the care of my pet was not taken serious or the vets that are there are not capable of treating animals

I was not happy because I could not make use of all the plan due to the dogs illness so I asked for an adjustment. Without advising me they cancelled the plan and sent a refund minus charges they would not explain to me and never have. They overcharge on everything. Lactated Ringers from them 21$ and from elsewhere $5.99. I would be ashamed to work for this Vet and any Vet that is good should be ashamed to work for Banfield. They upsale all of their plans making you feel as if you are getting a bargin yet it does not cover many of the things that your dog needs and they mark everything up so much that they try to make you think you have saved much money and in reality you have not. This is why there is a class action suit against them.

Banfield killed my dog

After finding out about banfield i thought it was a good idea to get the wellness plan for my 2 year old husky who was perfectly fine, probably the healthiest dog in the world. after he got his vaccines, which were for the lepto, rabies, parvo and bordetella, he started feeling weak and lost his appettite a month after that.

I took him back to find out what it was and they thought there was something wrong with his stomach, i knew there wasnt anything wrong with his stomach because when you felt up his abdomen he didnt complain or anything but since im no expert i trustred what the doctor said. he gave me antibiotics for an infection, to control diarrhea and throw up which was $300, i didnt mind the cost because i thought i was saving money plus it was going to my dog who was my best friend. after he was done with the medication he was feeling worse and didnt eat AT ALL, he was loosing weight so fast and didnt have any energy. I took him back and they thought it was either parvo or endocrine disease so i paid for more test which were $500.

they told me it was parvo so i bought antibiotics for parvo which were $200 and i did my own research of thing i could do to fasten the treatment so he could her better. another month went by and he was worse than ever, he went from being 70 pounds to almost 30, he still tried to run but he barely had any muscle, fat or energy left. i called them to make an appointment because the treatment wasnt working and they told me it was actually leptospirosis. after a month of trying to fight parvo they told me it was another thing.

i did more research on it so i could help my dog out and i saw an article about a woman talking about her dog died because of the vaccines and i started to look more into it. I learnt that a dog should NEVER get more than one shot at a time because animals have different immune systems and that it takes at least one or two months to recover. on the same page i saw a comment about a girl that worked at banfield but quit because she saw so many dogs overdose and when a dog gets more than 1 shot their immune system can get so low that they actually get the diseases they got vaccinated for.

the leptospirosis shot my dog got is supposed to be an independent shot but banfield gave him 3 more shots along with that and made him suffer without helping him. my dog passed away yesterday and i am pissed i cant do any justice for him because its their policy.

i advise anyone that is looking into going into banfield to go to another vet, dont think your saving money because of the wellness plan because now i have to finish off paying for my dead dog that they didnt even help.

I'm so sorry your dog passed. However you really should make sure the 'research' you are reading is from licensed professionals or journal recognised studies, not just people stating their (in most cases uneducated, non-medical based opinions).

Being a licensed veterinarian of >8years experience in multiple clinics I can state that I know of no formal, journal approved studies that show healthy dogs & cats can only handle 1 vaccine at a time. Sometimes an already immunocompromised/ill pet may need vaccinations spread out/only have 1 at a time because they have a hard time responding to the vaccine, but those are pretty rare cases. While life-threatening vaccine reactions are very sad, they are also quite rare. My clinic (not a banfield btw) routinely vaccinate healthy animals with 2-3 vaccines at a time so that owners dont have to pay multiple office visit fees & in all this time we have had 1, maybe a 2nd (unconfirmed) cases of severe reactions that resulted in an animal passing.

That's spread out over thousands & thousands of pets........so a tiny percentage. Having said that it is really not fair that you still have to pay for insurance after your pet passed.

Switch and BAIT WELLNESS PLANS

I had years of good experience with Banfield until fairly recently when they became corporate under new policies. They hire very inexpeienced vets, interns, and only allow for their lowered quality of corporate policy.

They baited and switched me with their wellness plans. I did get two other opinions after they refused to do a dental cleaning, The intern vet took a complete blood work-up after telling me she was going to do a heart x-ray and EKG because they heard a heart murmer..

After telling me the results of the blood work-up and no explanation for doing the EKG and X_ray she said she would downgrade my plan for a few weeks until I had her do a special blood test.

Neglected to mention that that would cost $165.00 but manipulated the plan to cover NOTHING that would be applicable for a few weeks---then said whe would upgrade the plan but later found out that they would not do the cleaning if his liver count was slightly elevated---which the other two valued vet opinions (one of which worked for Banfield previously, but left when management changed) said he was not at greater risk than any other dog with these issues, as they were minimal. They are continuing to bill me for the plan which is useless, and I will not continue using them for either of my animals and do not recommend them to anyone any longer.
