Putting any stars would be to generous. For the second time Banfield Pet Hospital of Lawranceville, has let me down. Six year ago I had a new puppy that had been abandoned. By the time I got him he was full of worms. I was told by a friend that Banfield had no charge...

Banfield Pet Hospital in Merrillville, Indiana - Cat died still had to pay monthly payments

I used banfield for maybe 30days. First off when i signed up the nurse said it was a montly payment and can be canceled when ever with no hidden fees or contract. im like okay cool. So i get 30 days late (Maybe less) my cat gets hit by a car. I call to cancel and fax over death certificate and they tell me i have to 29.95 for 11 months that its a contract. I was so pissed off! My cat died and im still paying her insurance. This place is a Joke! Don't use them and stay away from them. Don't get tricked into this b.s. they don't want to help you they want money!!!

I agree with anon. Everything is clearly spelled out in the wellness plan contract that you signed (I have 3 pets on plans) so it's your fault if you didn't read all the details.

Busy nurses/receptionists don't have the time to go over EVERYTHING with you - you have to do some work/reading yourself. You wouldn't get out of a car payment or a mobile phone contract just because you didn't take the time to make sure of the fine print......this is no different

The way your contract works is like this: The services are BUNDLED together and then discounted, and then that bundled price is split over 12 months. It's kind of like car payments: Lets say you purchase a $25,000 car and make payments of $300 a month.

If you crashed your car after 1 month, you don't just get to pay $300 and have that be the end of it. You still owe for the value of the car. It's the same thing with the wellness plan: Usually they use a lot of the services covered the first day you sign up: a comprehensive exam, blood work, fecal testing, vaccines, etc etc. Therefore, although you have made 1 monthly payment of $30, you have actually used $200+ of services.

Therefore, you must continue to pay until you have reimbursed the hospital for everything you have used. Even if your pet dies, the hospital still invested time, money, and equipment on your pet that needs to be paid for. It's a PAYMENT PLAN for the services you have used. Banfield offers 2 options when a client wishes to cancel their plan: You can either continue to make monthly payments until the contract is up, or you can pay out of pocket for the services you have already used.

You pay whatever IS CHEAPER FOR YOU. Since they told you to continue with the monthly payments, my guess is that this is the cheaper option for you.

I'm sorry for the loss of your pet, and that this policy was not more clearly explained to you. They aren't trying to rip you off for your deceased pet, they are merely collecting for services already performed.

I got a new puppy last year and decided to go with Banfields wellness plan which promised certain services, shots, neuter, etc. Truthfully, things were going pretty well at first. The neuter was done very well, the people were all very friendly, I couldn't complain....

Banfield vets are inadequate, care there is Inadequate, they make it extremely difficult to cancel wellness plan even when they're in the wrong.

You bought a bundle of services and you used those services, but have not paid for them like you promised you would. It's not that difficult.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Bowie, Maryland - Vet made my dog suffer more

My 5 year old Akita was very sick. The vet at Banfield examined her many times. When I asked about putting her down he said that I had to "make every effort" to make the dog well before making the decision to put her down. I spent a lot of money and spent more to put her down. Whose decision is it to put down a pet? Shouldn't it be the pet owner's decision. When you don't have the money to "make every effort" shouldn't it be the owner's choice, no matter how painful it may be? Anyone know the law?

Why is there never a person's name attached to these stock Banfield responses? Seems pretty clear they are intended for the reader, as if the company cares, rather than for the injured party. Do they think people are so *** they don't see that?

No, it's up to the vet's discretion. Euthanasia is an ethical decision, and not all parties will always come to the same conclusion. If a vet feels like a certain euthanasia is unethical, he/she is not obligated to perform it.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Los Angeles, California - Waste of time & money

My cat was suffering from intestinal/digestive problems. I took him to Banefield at PetSmart on La Cienaga in LA. The vet at banefield maybe spent 2 minutes with my cat and then proceeded to show me a menu on a PC screen and tried to sell me over $500 worth of tests and then some type of insurance that would cover half of the costs initially, but would cost the same after all premiums are paid. When I refused, he then went ahead and overcharged me for a dewormer (cat doesn't even have worms), a vitamin B shot, a flea & tick remedy, & some probiotics. Non of these things helped my cat, & later I found out I was overcharged 3x for these items compared to prices elsewhere. The vets here don't care. It's like a McDonalds for sick animals. Now serving # 1,000,563! All they are interested in is getting you to sign up for the BS Wellness Care plan. Save your money and go elsewhere, where people care.

Ive had my share of problems with this place, but honestly if youre not willing to spend the money and correctly DIAGNOSE pet to get correct treatment, then you cant really be pissed. In any medical field you can only accurately treat what you know. You forced your veterinarian to take a shot in the dark due to your own financial restraints.

Yeah.................see this going nowhere fast & probably costing you a load. You have no case.

You clearly do not understand how any of the medicines you describe them using work (i.e Lidocaine would SLOW the heart - they most likely gave it to try & reduce the fast rate you accuse them of causing with this drug!!) & there is a VERY limited amount you could win even if the case did go your way ($1000 in CA for a personal pets loss) so you would be better spending your lawyers fees getting some grief counselling. Sadly pets, at all Vets can die. Especially ones with underlying cardiac disease like you describe your pet as having/being on medications for. Cardiac disease is almost always fatal sooner or later, no matter how heard you fight it.

You chose to purse CPR, you approved them treating your pet & ultimately you had to sign a consent form for euthanasia. You have ZERO case.

I have my 3 cats on Banfield Wellness plan, and we live in GA where there is a large mosquito population. And although my babies are indoors strictly, a mosquito might get in as my husband and I come from outside, right. So I ordered the first shield, and then on...

First Shield does not treat for mosquitos. It only does fleas. If you need something that does prevents fleas and does heartworm prevention, you need Revolution.

It has been a few years since her passing. Whether she had an underlying condition or not, I still will not take any other animals here due to the amount of reported claims from other pet owners.

Banfield could be just getting a bad rap. The only thing I was happy...

Dear Friend,

Dec 8, and I am in the process of filing a grievance with the State Veterinary Medical Board.

My kitty, 17, had her teeth cleaned and a bad tooth removed.

Unbeknownst to me, the doctor failed to give her antibiotic following the procedure: I thought nothing of it at the time, because in 10 years, I never had a problem with this.

Her health declined due to infection. Not one in four doctors ever bothered to review her July 8 procedure to see if there was a connection: not 1 in 4! So, they all play by the same, "cover their a" playbook so as to avoid the appearance of negligence.

It is how they avoid liable: never admit anything, and obfuscate the truth and lead the people on to something else, even if it means making it up.

So, in 3 days, the 4th doctor finds a mysterious development of lobes of ? Exactly: they had no clue and convinced me to test her would kill her. And, I knew they would kill her just to keep us quiet.

Instead, they convinced me she was not worth saving at her age, and "lovingly" helped me make the decision to put her down.

Lady, she was suffering, not dying, but at the time, I believed them and was unaware of the lack of antibiotic. If you have all your paperwork, get a professional to write a grievance: there is a process which I am pursuing at this time. Granted, these are politicians and they will likely not do anything, however, they will send these doctors a copy of the complaint and they will know, I will not shut up if something has been done unethically to an animal: they must pay.

This is one way. Another, tell all your friends to really be careful when having their pet's teeth done, and always do not trust your vet 100 percent: get 2 or 3 opinions before you ever put your family member down. Do not waste money on seeking problems out. Best to take them out of town; do not get second and third opinions in town, as these people are more than likely good friends.

Since when do we put animals down for suffering, not dying? There was not one of 4 docs that told me, "she is dying". Her vitals were all strong, but she was not worth saving, nor admitting a mistake was made, let's get that antibiotic in her and see if her body could right itself.... Pain?

Guilt? Yes. I live with it too. These people, will also live with it even in my quiet desperation.

God Bless you.

My kitty resides right next to my bed for as long as I live.....Justice will continue to be sought, even if only in prayer. Salisbury, NC
