In Oct 2011 I took my dog in to Banfield with what I thought was an injured foot. I had just moved from another state and the dog was fine, within a week of being in the new place I thought maybe she injured her foot somehow while exploring. One of her toe nails was...

Assuming this is the whole story (i.e you didn't decline to allow the Vet at Banfield to take radiographs in the beginning, that you did go back for the follow-up exams as recommended) it definitely sounds like there was negligence here. Any decent vet would recommend radiographs of the area BEFORE surgery in case there was evidence of a fracture/neoplasia that could explain a persistent lameness.

It may come too late for your pet but I would recommend you aggressively pursue this & ask for a copy of all the medical/surgical records be sent to you immediately so you can have your other vet review them. Then maybe you could both speak the the Medical Director (the Dr in charge of all the other Dr's in a region) for that hospital regarding your concerns for poor quality of medicine that your pet received so that they can make sure the Vets that saw your pet are OK to see other pets or if it would be more suitable to file a complaint with the state licensing board

The vet at Banfield prescribed methocarbamol tablets for my (12 year old) 27 lb. Sheltie with displacia. I had been using baby aspirin every once in a while and it always seemed to work but my dog started spitting out the baby aspirin. I was looking for a better pain...

You are going to kill your pet if you persist in ignoring medical advise & then the only person to blame will be YOU!!!

You need to go straight back to your vet & have them give your pet a thorough check-up to make sure it is not anemic/having evidence of continued blood loss. Melena (digested blood/tarry ***) is a sign of an upper-GI bleed & this is most commonly associated with NSAID (aspirin, carprofen, meloxicam) use. Either because the pet is just very sensitive & cannot tolerate a normal dose, because the drugs were overdosed, or because they were mixed with drugs that they can interact poorly with.

As a vet I get so ridiculously annoyed with pet owners who think that looking at Google gives them license to 'play Dr' when they have no bloody idea what they are doing/which drugs are safe to mix together etc. This happens all the time & then we then have to fix the mess you make of your pets - and sometimes the damage done can be irreparable.

You two need to get off your high horse. Life happens, the economy sucks, people get sick, people loose their jobs...

If you two are vet techs then you get your vet care for free! So stop bad mouthing people that struggle with treating their pets. My advice is find affordable vet care near your home. I have a house full of pets because I worked in the animal industry, and love animals.

I no longer work for medical reasons, and my husband is the sole support. We had a reasonable vet that retired, and I finally found a reasonably priced one.

I also use Golden State Humane Society, Vaccination clinics, some shelters offer low cost vet care. Investigate and be prepared next time.

Banfield Pet Hospital - Banfield Cape Coral A Big Rip Off

I took my dog in for a 'free visit' the entire time I was there, it was a commercial to sell me the wellness plan. My dog is 16 years old has a cataracts. Yet the vet kept asking me what was wrong with her eyes, she was rough with my dog flipping her over and pulling on her. She said she didn't know my dog's history and that I should probably consider putting her to sleep as she was old and just going to get worse. There is nothing wrong with her! Even this so called doctor could find nothing wrong. Her bedside manner was rough and her people skills are terribly lacking. I will never go back. My "free" visit cost me $135.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Glendora, California - Poor service

Bought their dog insurance plan, mostly because they offer a great deal on free exams and free teeth cleaning once a year. After signing up the vet tells me my dog is too old for the anesthesia and may die if they try to clean his teeth. Then whenever they did the comprehensive free exam, they would tell me he might have cancer, this doesn't look good, that doesn't look good and they want to do a bunch of expensive tests. My dog is elderly but does just fine! He has a great appetite, runs around and is a happy guy. I feel this insurance is just a rip off to get you to keep going to them for more expensive treatment your pet doesn't need. Recently I went for an ear exam and had to pay $200. just for the "tests" they needed to diagnose an ear infection, which my dog gets all the time. It always clears up with the same medication, but they won't give it to me unless I go in for their expensive exam and tests. They won't even do a refill once I did get the exam and tests. When I called to tell them I was unhappy, the vet wouldn't even return my call.

Banfield pet hospital is a ripoff. I called to see how much it would cost for my puppy to be neutered and they told me that they couldn't give me a price over the phone and that I would have to come in and get a $40 exam for my puppy and then they would discuss the...

We have used Banfield Pet Hospital with both of our dogs. Our St Bernard/Rottie mix in FT.

Wayne Indiana and our Lab mix in Tulsa Oklahoma. I have found that they are very knowledgeable and have made the right calls for both pets. Unfortunately we had to have our dog put down at 7 by the vets in Ft. Wayne.

The Dr actually listened to what we had to say before our decision was made by us. although they might be a little pricey they do have a good reputation for the care that they give.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Pearland, Texas - Racist Manager

I used to bring my pet to this location, and I loved it. But recently it looks as if they've had a big staff turnover and even lost a doctor. I wasn't greeted by the same sweet girl that I'd been used to for years when I walked up to the counter, which was a disappointment (although the new young lady was nice enough). What I didn't like was that while waiting in my room, I could hear the manager getting onto one of her employees. She went on about how this employee wasn't doing a good job and they need to step it up. That's fine and all, but what I heard next was appalling: she used the employee being WHITE against him/her! This alone is why I will not be returning to is location! I asked my nurse what the manager's full name was, and she replied Brandy Hippolight. This woman needs to be reprimanded for her action and verbal abuse to her employees.
