Negligence at Banfield Pet Hospital Took Our Dog Life
Friday February 1 2019. My wife and I dropped off our two schnauzers for a routine teeth cleaning. Banfield Pet Hospital had been seeing our dogs with routine check ups for more than 5 years. Our oldest schnauzer of 9 years was in for her last visit. On November 5th...

I’m very sorry for your loss. Schnaus are the best little dogs.

I wanted to note ‘routine teeth cleaning’ is a misnomer.

No anesthesia is routine, and it should never be treated as such. Even healthy animals (including humans) can die from general anesthesia.

I used Banfield's insurance starting in July 1, 2012. It was paid up front for the whole year. 2013, we renewal and again paid for the whole year. In 2014, I stated to pay for the full year, but somehow got put on a monthly pay plan. In June of 2015, I informed the...

You obviously knew it would automatically renew on July 1st, since you said you would come in BEFORE that date.

Well you obviously didn't go in before the renewal date like you said you were going to, since it was automatically renewed on July 1st.

So with that part, you have no right to complain.

The staff in the actual hospitals cannot cancel the plan or set it not to renew.

Only corporate can do that.

The cancellation policy is if you cancel before the year is up, you either pay the remainder of the months you owe, or the services you've already used (at cost), whichever is CHEAPER.

As for you sending the check. Maybe they didn't receive the check? I would definitely call them. They should be able to explain.

All you can do at this point is just pay the collection agency.

It does not effect your credit until it's been in collections for a certain amount of time (I believe it's 90 days or something like that). I don't work at Banfield anymore, but I did for years.

If you read the contract you signed then you would see that it clearly states the plan renews each year.

The reason being is to avoid having people have to pay the membership fee again, and also because pets heed ongoing care not just a years worth.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona - Customer Service horrible

Have been taking my dog to Banfield for last year in Plainville CT. Last few months have been taking my pet for a serious problem he has been having. Was told twice that he had ear infection and was given medicine and ear swab was taken. Moose was not getting any better so finally in desperation I took him to another vet and he has a very serious infection in his head....NOT HIS EARS so therefore being treated incorrectly for past months has put him in a serious situation. Everytime I have visited Banfield, the customer service is terrible. Everytime I have called to get my dog in because of an issue with him, I am immediately told "no appointments open today, but you can "drop" him off and we will look at him between appts...I am not looking for grooming, I am looking for medical treatment because of a problem. One instance recently I had a vet who was filling in at Banfield that day. She proceeded to tell me she didn't know what was wrong with him...that was end of appt !!! I have voiced my opinion directly by phone to supervisor at that location. Of course that was two days after I made initial call to end my relationship with this hospital and was told by tech that she did not know what day her supv was working. All in all horrible customer service and more important the care of my pet was not taken serious or the vets that are there are not capable of treating animals

I walked in the Banfield pet hospital on Dec 1, 2013 at 0815 with 1 year old neutered cat in tow. The receptionist asked what was wrong with my cat. I explained he was squatting but no urine was coming out and he seemed to be in pain. The receptionist said they were...

Sorry for your loss. Here's the inside story.

I am a Vet currently working for Banfield so I know exactly what goes on as far as how the hospitals are run and why they were probably too busy to see your pet. Management sets all the staff & Dr schedules. Most of the time to keep costs down they only schedule 1 Vet a day. This vet is then expected to see all the scheduled appointments (between 20-25 a day), do all the surgeries (3-4 a day, between appointments), do all the call backs & see any walk-ins.

IT IS INSANE!!! I generally get <10 mins per pet, no break for lunch/to *** & end up staying late (which I don't get paid for) everynight. This is why so many vets leave Banfield within a year or two. Their Vet turnover/burnout is crazy.

If Corpoprate could stop overscheduling the routine appointments & try & have more than 1 Dr on a day then we would be able to see more walk-ins/emergencies, but until they do that we are sadly just stretched too thin which is dangerous for the sick pets we do see because we only get a few mins to evaluate each case.

I even tell my family if they have a sick pet/emergency to go to an emergency hospital where hopefully the Vet there can give it the time/attension it needs. Banfield is no good for emergencies.

Banfield Pet Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona - Over scheduling, over charging

I've been taking my dogs & cat here for 14 yrs. Each year they get worse about over-scheduling appointments. I have waited as long as three hours beyond my scheduled appointment time and never less than 45 minutes. They have no respect for customers time. There is always an average of a one hour wait after you check in. It's ridiculous. They are useless if your pet gets sick. If your pet needs surgery they tell you to go elsewhere. They also lost my dead dogs body in a freezer for 30 days. They are incompetent. For the slightest service they want you to drop your pet off at 8:00a.m & they'll call you to pick your dog up when they are done. I'm cancelling all my pets' so called "wellness plans" with Banfield. I'd warn anyone away after the experiencesI've had over the years.

Sadly I agree. I used to work as a Vet for Banfield until the beginning of the year & we were under intense pressure to say yes to every client that calls & wants to be seen everyday, even when we are already fully booked.

This means that the hospitals are ALWAYS horribly overbooked & we were NEVER on time. So then all the clients are pissed off all the time & yell at us because they have to wait for their appointments, or because they have to drop off their pet because we simply cannot squeeze anymore clients into rooms/the waiting room. If your lucky we might get to spend a whole 10 mins with you & your pet. Clearly NOT enough time if your pet is sick or injured.

It SUCKED to be a vet there. We almost never got lunch breaks & worked well over the time we are supposed to be there until every night.

Most of the other vets hate it & are looking for other jobs as well because of all the angry clients & corporate pressure to make as much money as possible/see as many pets as possible.

probably the dr had nothing to do with the dental, when i worked for a banfield for 2 years the dentals were all done by techs unless they needed a dr to do an extraction because the techs arent allowed to do those. thats why their dental cleanings are so chaep, drs dont do them.....techs do. also they hire untrained and unlicensed techs because they have to pay them less then expect them to do things they arent fully trained to do but the drs dont have time to help or train them because they see too many pets and are always busy
