During routine exam vet said my dog needed heart worm injection. I had just told the vet that my dog was at least 10 years old, very sensitive to all foods, medicines and had a terrible reaction to flea/tick prevention meds. Vet said injection was necessary. Gave shot...

They lie about vaccines needed. I took my pup, Foxy, there for an annual checkup. She had a 3 year rabies vaccine the previous year at a different facility. Banfield tried to tell me that “the state doesn’t recognize the 3 year rabies vaccine, so if my dog were to bite someone she’d be confiscated”. What a load of bull. Entirely untrue. They rely on scare tactics to sell you things that are unnecessary. We never went again.

Did you have a necropsy done. If not, your pup could have died from several things unrelated to vaccinations.

If there is evidence of vaccine related issues, the vaccine companies will help withpayment, treatment, and other things. And they will investigate to try and reduce the chances of it happening again to another animal.

So according to your complaint, it sounds like to you, vaccines are more important than the ear infection.

Obviously your dog's ear infection is extremely bad if they need to start with steroids. That means you've let the infection so bad that they aren't able to put medication in the ear.

That's not their fault.

That's YOUR fault for letting it get that bad before taking the dog in. Which I may add, you didn't even bring him in for that, you just brought him in for vaccines.

If you hadn't waited so long to get treatment, steroids wouldn't have been needed and your bill would have been alot less.

When you go in for the recheck, the office visit price will not be the full price. It will be a recheck fee which is usually about $15 less than the initial visit.

Pets cost money & require vet care for more than just vaccines.

They need an exam once or twice a year just to be sure they are healthy. They need to see the vet when they are sick, which can cost alot money, especially if you don't get them seen right when the problem starts. So they aren't just "fishing for money" as you put it. Again, it's not their fault you waited until your dog's ear infection got so bad that they can't even put medication in it.

Yes, he will need a recheck, which is as I said above, a recheck fee lower than the regular visit price, to check the progress on the ears. Yes, you will again need to pay another office visit fee when he finally is able to get vaccines as a pet should be examined the same day as a vaccine to make sure they are healthy enough for said vaccine. It's not Banfield that does that. Any GOOD vet requires office visits and rechecks.

So don't blame Banfield when it's clearly NOT their fault, it's YOURS. No, I don't work at banfield.

I did for almost 6yr but I don't anymore, nor do I particularly care for the way the higher ups treat the staff. I will say though, that my 2 doctors I worked with were phenomenal.

I'm assuming the pet morning drop off is something that's good for pet owners who work and can't take time off work to have their pet seen, as well as morning drop off for pre surgical procedures.

However, I would under no circumstances just drop my pet off in the morning if I had the time available to wait and be with my pet during a routine examination. I want to meet the doctor, I want see and know what's going on and I want to be able to have the Doc answer any questions or address any concerns I may have at that time of the exam.

People just don't just drop off their child at a Doctors or Dentist office for the day and pick the child up after words.

Yikes! Your new, 'better' vet could easily have killed your puppy.

Pets do not get elevated liver enzymes as a result of stress, simply doesn't happen, so that was BS. Your puppy could have a portosystemic shunt and that elevated enzyme could & SHOULD have been fully worked up BEFORE an elective (i.e. non-emergency) surgery is performed. Otherwise if your puppy dies later of complications or a bad reactions to certain medications then it is all on you for not investigating it when you were told you should.

No idea what the 'other anesthesia' Banfield mentioned is - maybe just heavy sedation, which is less than ideal.

P.S ANY pet can have a vaccine reaction, they do happen, just like in people, and it is nothing that a vet 'does wrong'. That same batch of vaccine can be given to thousands and thousands of pets any only a handful will have reactions. Unfortunately you just can't tell before giving the vaccines which pets will have a reaction & which ones won't unless you already know that they have a history of having a reaction.

I do agree that they should have recommended a dose of diphenhydramine over the phone for you though as that does help.

P.P.S It is spelled Maine Coon - please educate yourself on this many apparently many other things before getting any more pets.

That was not me. I did not call the receptionist any name, but I sure wanted too.

The yelling upset my son because my his father was abusive and he has memories if that has a child. His father had no qualms about assaulting me in front of our sons. I should say mine since I am the one raising them. He was upset the moment she started yelling at me.

So maybe employees at Banfield should understand, that sometimes yelling causes stress for children in other ways.

To the employee there are few good Banfields as there is one with great reviews. But there are so many private practice vet's with cheaper prices that do give quality care.

But some are horrible. I am glad you work at a nice one, and that they have ethics.
