Banfield failed to premedicate our doxie before giving more than one vaccine. They did not caution us or warn us about the danger. she suffered an acute allegeric reaction and was hospitilized 2x in emergency in the same day.

She was in anguish and was completed swollen to the point of looking like a different breed. Her eyes were swollen shut and she had hundreds of raised red blotches all over and in her ears and mouth. Banfield vet told us that they use inferior vaccines and recommended we go elsewhere next time.

She should have warned us before she gave her the shots. Banfield management was indifferent and says it happens all the time.

I've had great dealings with all of the Banfield vets that I've taken my service dog Lilly to. We have been to Lacey, WA and Killeen, Tx ones and they were both amazing!

I also had to take a pet bearded dragon into the banfield hospital in Killeen TX as she somehow managed to break her arm, luckfully they taped it up, and got her some medications and she has made a full recovery! As for my service dog she had to go multiple times for her weight (79lbs) and for her eyes, as she has had ulcers in them for years. She also went there once for her dental cleaning. Through all of her visits from frontline to flea dip they made sure to call me and let me know what was going on, the doctors were all very helpful and even helped by showing me what I needed to do for Lilly.

It was one of the few clinics that NEVER looked at my dog as a criminal because she is a bully breed.

They never muzzled her for vaccines or anything of the such, not even her grooming and toe trims! I was very pleased with their service.

My daughter bought her 6month old cat Bella to get sprayed this morning at Banfield clinc in NY. @ 730am.

When she was at work she receive a called that her little Bella was dead. The doctor at Banfield clinic said the cat was only under the gas for a minute before she started to turn blue. (WTH). They said they tried for 15 min to resuscitate her unfortunately she never came to.

What baffling to me is the cat was extremly healthy and how much gas was given to an 8lb cat in 1 min. They was apologetic but that wasn't it they came with a bill for her to pay after to cremate our Bella this is a sad story. The cat was my 5 year old granddaughter playmate and a beloved part of our family.

There is so many unanswered questions where do we turn for a case like this. ( missing you Bella).

That's unsual since dachshunds are one of the at risk breeds according to Banfields own protocols and should have been premedicated even if it hadn't reacted before.

Yea, but they insist on calling the "Veterinary Nurse", even though most aren't even lic vet techs.

I am a certified veterinary technologist. I'm sorry to hear about what happend to your animals.

I will not take any of my pets to any banfield, their prices are cheap for a reason. although they do you Fort dodge vaccinces which are not inferrior by any means as this is what is used at my clinic, the stablizers and the adjuvants that are used cause sensitivity in some animals. if they have never had a reaction before it is very uncommon to premedicate.

the problem with Banfield is that they utilize their Veterinary Assistants (which are not required to have any education beyond High school) to do many of the duties of a technician or technologist which requires 2 or 4 years of college. the mix up on the valium was probably a miscalculation due to inexperience of an assistant.

I brought my Boston Terrier to Banfield in Salem. His backbone was sticking up and he looked very skinny.

He was also having seizures and walking favoring one side. After talking to Ally on the phone and some mix up about the correct spelling of my name I made an appointment. Not to mention how annoying it is to hear all the "honey" and "sweetheart" talk from Ally. I showed up and waited about 30 minutes.

Dr. Hill checked out my dog and they took blood and urine samples. Needless to say I was sent home with a "special" very expensive dog food and a clean bill of health. The next day he went downhill and I took him to a new vet in town. He felt his stomach and said he has an enormous growth that needs to be removed immediately.

X-rays showed the growth was squishing all of his internal organs and forcing his backbone up and out.

I feel terrible that I waited and took him to that useless Doctor in Salem. He is finally feeling better and we are waiting to see if the growth was cancerous.pattyb365@***.com

Reality check

I'm sorry to hear about your dachsund but it is not always customary to premedicate animals before giving vaccines. Some breeds are predisposed to having reactions but there is no way to know.

If a dog has had a reaction in the past, it is always recommended to premedicate. Did your dog ever have reactions previously? Banfield uses vaccines from the company Ft. Dodge.

Many veterinarians feel that there are a higher number of vaccine reactions with that brand compared with others. That doesn't mean the vaccines is "inferior". It provides the same protection as any other. But the chances of a vaccine reaction do seem higher.

Since Banfield is a corporation, the veterinarians do not have a choice to vaccinate with any other brand than the one that the company orders.

Severe vaccine reactions such as the one you describe are very rare, even in Banfield clinics. Most reactions are very mild swelling. While I understand your concern, there is nothing in your story that indicates the Banfield veterinarians did anything wrong or negligent.

There is simply no way to know what dogs will react to vaccines just as there is not way to know what humans will react to vaccines.

And I'll bet you've never been premedicated to get vaccines either. It is an unfortunate issue that could have happened at any clinic.

1 WEEK FROM TODAY MY JUST TURN ONE YELLOW LAB PUP HAD SURGERY AT SALEM, MA. BANFIELD HOSPITAL.THEY SENT HER HOME THE SAME DAY.

SHE HAD SWALLOWED A ROPE TOY, AND HAD THE SURGERY TO REMOVE IT. THEY ALSO HAD TO TAKE A FOOT OF HER INTESTINE OUT. SHE SEEMED TO BE DOING OK, BUT THEY HAD HER SO HEAVILY MEDICATED IT WAS HARD TO TELL. SHE HAD A QUICK RE-CHECK ON THURSDAY, AND WAS TOLD EVERYTHING WAS FINE.

THEY DIDN'T DO ANY TESTS OR X-RAYS TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANY INTERNALLY GOING ON.FRIDAY NIGHT SHE WENT INTO RESPIRATORY ARREST. WE TRIED CPR, BUT WERE NOT SUCCESSFUL. WE RUSHED HER TO THE WOBURN, MA ANIMAL EMERGENCY HOSPITAL. WE HAD CALLED THEM WHILE DRIVING, AND THEY TOLD US THE TRAUMA TEAM WOULD BE WAITING FOR HER WHEN WE ARRIVED.

THEY TRIED NUMEROUS TIMES TO REVIVE HER, BUT DID NOT HAVE SUCCESS. WE ARE HEARTBROKEN TO HAVE LOST PART OF OUR FAMILY, AND OUR THREE CHILDREN ARE DEVASTATED.I DO NOT WANT ANOTHER FAMILY TO ED-ORE THE HEARTACHE AND DEVASTATION MY FAMILY & I ARE GOING THROUGH.NOTHING WILL BRING OUR FAMILY PUP BACK, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO TRY AND MAKE SURE NO ONE HAS TO GO THROUGH THE GRIEF AND SUFFERING THAT OUR FAMILY IS GOING THROUGH. THE EMERGENCY HOSPITAL WAS SHOCKED AND SURPRISED THAT THEY LET OUR PUP GO HOME THE SAME DAY OF HER MAJOR SURGERY. MY GOAL IS TO MOVE FORWARD AND PREVENT BANFIELD FROM PREFORMING MAJOR SURGERIES.

THEY ARE NOT AN OVERNIGHT FACILITY, WHICH MEANS THEY CAN NOT PROVIDE THE CARE FOR AN ANIMAL WHO HAS HAD MAJOR SURGERY OR A PROCEDURE THAT NEEDS & REQUIRES MONITORING OR OBSERVATION. I AM NOT SURE WHERE I AM HEADING WITH STOPPING BANFIELD, BUT I AM GOING TO BE A VOICE THAT IS HEARD.

I OWE THIS TO MY DOG,FAMILY, AND FUTURE PETS THAT WILL HAVE PROCEDURES DONE AT BANFIELD. IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO JOIN ME OR SHARE THEIR UNFORTUNATE STORY PLEASE E-MAIL ME AT BARBARASAVON@***.NET

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!!!

THANK YOU...BG

I am sorry to hear this. Our boy was taken from us due to the neglect of our vet at Banfield.

He had a simple operation in which they decided to *** him up on so much Valium before he was sent home, that he went into respiratory arrest in the car within 2 minutes of placing him in there. They were so worried about going home on time that they pushed his care off on us and shot him up. To top if off, they called me THE NEXT DAY and said I owed the remainder of the wellness plan he was on. Since we renewed it right before the surgery....the cost was over 600 in addition to the surgery.

They can go to ***; the day after? Can't you people have any empathy towards you clients? You all make me sick. I have spoke with a lawyer and do plan to pursue a suit against this awful place.

DO NOT TAKE YOU DOG CAT OR ANY ANIMAL HERE. We were told this doctor was one of the best in the area, but sure were wrong.

What the *** is wrong with these people? The only thing that would make me happy would be to hear that they went bankrupt.

I think we all need to BAN together to get BANfield BANNED from the USA.
